Natural Dog Shampoo

Natural Dog Shampoo

by Alex Makarski

When we go out and buy dog shampoo, we just grab whatever we see on the shelf and toss it into the shopping cart. We continue our shopping and the rest does not matter. This is the habit many people have. They neglect to read the back of the product to actually see what is inside. The next time you go shopping, take the time to look at the ingredients at the back of the bottle. If you have not heard of the word paraben, you have probably come across it when you were reading through the ingredients.

What are parabens? Parabens are certain chemicals put together inside a product to kill fungi and bacteria. This prevents the bacteria from growing inside the product. Most shampoos and beauty cosmetics contain this paraben preservative. Although this preservative is found in many products, there are a few skeptics saying that there is no proof that the preservative is harmful. However, recent studies showed that paraben played a part in tumors.

So make sure you pay attention to the ingredients for the natural dog shampoo you purchase. If you do see parabens listed, let it sit on the shelf and collect dust. It's best to use something that has natural ingredients and can actually help the body. In a dog's case, it not only helps keeps them healthy, it also gives them a shiny looking coat that lets you know he or she is doing well. Just remember, no toxic botanicals and your dog, the environment, and family will be safer.

If you pay attention to the industry, it's safe to say that all the cleaning products for dogs can be found and manufactured from natural ingredients. Taking advantage of this will allow your dog to stay clean, keep fleas and other bugs away, as well as give them healthy absorption into the skin. Best of all, you don't have to worry about wondering what harmful chemicals are in the dog shampoo. This is why you should also believe in natural dog shampoo and everything it has to offer.

Natural dog shampoo is paraben free, and they contain no other chemicals that could dry out your dog's coat or make it sick. The great thing about natural dog shampoo is the fact that anyone in the family can use it on the dog. You don't have to worry about the side effects. The other advantage about natural products is that they contain antioxidants that prevent your dog's skin from drying out and other illnesses.

There are many people that love their dogs unconditionally. They believe that a person should never apply a product to their dog's body that they would not use themselves. If you come across the paraben preservative in a certain dog shampoo product make a note of it and pass it around to your neighbors, family and friends. Let them know how harmful the chemical is and how it can affect your dog's health and your dog's life. Doing this and you will not only be prolonging your best friend's life, but also the lives of many dogs in your neighborhood and in your circle. - 20511

The Bull Terrier Being The Best-Loved Pet Of The Blue Bloods

The Bull Terrier Being The Best-Loved Pet Of The Blue Bloods

by Troy Richardson

The Bull Terrier or English Terrier is a terrier type of dog that originally came from England. In Africa, this breed is called Varkhond, meaning pig dog. This name was derived from the fact that the Bull Terrier's head and eyes are similar to a pig. Moreover, this breed was popularly used in hunting bush-pigs and warthogs.

This breed can trace its roots from the Bull and Terrier breeds of the 18th century. These Bull and Terriers were born aggressive, unwary and agile in fighting monstrous animals in bull baiting. The sports of bull baiting and bear baiting were famous blood sport during the middle of 18th century; they were so popular that even the royals favor this past time.

In 1830, breeders decided to develop a dog that is more agile and fearless in attacking the gigantic bears and bulls. Crossing the Bulldog, Old English Terrier and Spanish Pointer, the Bull Terrier was born. However, this breed came out as not an excellent fighter inside the arena.

However, although not as popular in the fighting pit, the Bull Terrier became famous as a fashionable pet. People as high as the aristocrats became fancier of this breed and sometimes this breed can be seen as guard dogs, watch dogs and vermin catcher. Presently, the fanciers can also enjoy a miniature of the Bull Terrier called Miniature Bull Terrier.

The body of the Bull Terrier is thick-set and full-figured. Its head has a distinct shape of an egg. This means that its head is flat and wide at the top and narrows down to the nose.

The eyes of this dog are almond-shaped, small, and dark and are placed close to each other. The coat of this dog is short and dense and sticks tight to the body. The coat colors come in black, brindle, pure white, red, fawn and tri-color.

The Bull Terrier is naturally powerful and not very biddable. However, it is very bright, dependable and lively. It is affectionate and loves the companionship of the family and it is also gentle with children.

This breed is very protective of young children especially the female dogs. It is active and rough but also amicable with other dogs and animals. This dog needs a daily dose of exercise in order to keep its body and mind healthy. - 20511

Money Saving Pet Food Tips

Money Saving Pet Food Tips

by Skotten Edelstein

The world is currently feeling the pinch of an economic crisis. Everyone is tightening their proverbial belts in order to save money and cut costs considerably. Sadly, no one knows for how long this dreadful scenario will stop hovering over the country's financial status. This is why it is essential to be very conscious of one's spending habits in order to maximize your purchasing power.

The news of big firms in Wall Street filing for bankruptcy and financial bailout packages doesn't help calm the mind of ordinary consumers. In fact, it adds fuel to the fire because it will result to lower economic growth and higher inflation rate. This is terrible news to those who are already in deep debt. This grim scenario which hovers over the country like a dark cloud is very scary to all concerned.

Even pet owners are not spared from this predicament. It is obvious that expenses for pets are not as steep as those for human being. However, that is still not a reason to be unworried and shell out tons of dollars like there is no tomorrow. Nowadays, it is vital to be more conscious of your spending habits so that you can still maintain ample savings in your bank account. Always be on the lookout on ways to set aside some precious bucks. Here is a comprehensive list of ways to save money on pet food. Hopefully, they will be a welcome solution to your pet-related food woes.

The first way to save your green bucks on pet food is to buy in bulk. Instead of buying a small package, say 1-kilo of dog food every week, why not buy an entire sack that weighs six kilos that will last for a month or so? The lower price is due to the lesser amount of money being spent by the manufacturer for the packaging. Since they will only use one big sack instead of six mall bags, they can pass on their savings to their loyal consumers.

Another practical way to save is through internet merchants. It is a given fact that the online marketplace offers the clients a lot of choices when it comes to pet food. In the internet, you have a lot of options that will satisfy your judicious needs and desires. Majority of the web sites offer a lot of selection of pet food items, from the most affordable to the most expensive, depending on the quality. Here, you can canvass the prices and compare the items with just a few clicks of your mouse. After making a decision, you can easily pay for the pet food using your credit card or PayPal account. A small amount for shipping and handling fee will be added to your bill and in a few days, the item will be delivered right at your doorstep.

Check out your veterinarian's supply. If you often buy your food products from him, then he will probably give you a discount or a promotional price. It is also possible that he will slash down his mark up if you are consistently purchasing other pet items from his clinic aside from your pet food.

Be on the lookout for pet coupons. They can be found anywhere. Some pet food companies place advertisements in magazines along with a free coupon. Others distribute it to their wholesale suppliers or veterinary offices. Furthermore, there are those who give out these coupons in the mall or in the streets for faster allocation.

Lastly, you can abolish treats if they are not really needed. Remember that a regular treat for your pet may not amount when bought individually, but if you sum up your expenses in a month, it will add up to quite an amount. If you can't avoid giving your beloved pet a treat, do it once every two months and only if he deserves it. - 20511

Most Loyal and Sturdy Companion: Pit Bull Terrier

Most Loyal and Sturdy Companion: Pit Bull Terrier

by Troy Richardson

Origins of pit bulls can be traced from the bulldogs and terriers in England way back during the Elizabethan period. As compared to other breeds such as the English Spaniel Springer and the Australian Cattle dog, the pit bulls origin is definite. However, with the rampant gambling occurring in England during that time, pit bulls were used by gamblers for dog fighting activities.

Bulldogs and terriers from England are the parents of pit bull terrier. The history of this breed type is definite because unlike other breeds, the development of this breed was properly documented in the past. During the era of Queen Elizabeth I, pit bull dogs were very common in dog fighting, one of the famous gambling practices during this time.

This breed type is also one of the most preferred companions because of its incomparable loyalty to its owner. Most owners claim that pit bulls are generally great pets, friendly, and have better temperament than other dogs. It is not a surprising comment about pit bulls because they are innately very smart, loving and protective of their owner and the owners family.

The only sad fact about pit bulls is that they commonly gain media popularity because of dog fighting events. Animal lovers, specifically dog lovers, are actually upset of this reality. Such bad publicity, however, is declining because of the efforts of humane owners and breeders to put an end to such thing.

Owning a pit bull terrier would be best if you have to have it while still a puppy. Older dogs are hard to train and you would be having difficulties to tame them in the long run. Most of the time, puppies are tolerant and easily adapt to their owner and the owners environment.

Warmer climate areas are the best places for rearing pit bull terriers. They have short coats so they could not survive cold environment. The most common body size of this breed type is 55 pounds but it generally ranges from 25 to 105 pounds weight.

Having a pit bull terrier can be a lot easier when you have it when it is still a puppy since they can still be easily trained. Puppies are a lot tolerant and can easily adapt with their owners environment as compared to grown ups. And with the proper care and training, they can be the best dog one can ever have.

What make pit bulls interesting is that they are the only breed that appeared three times in Life Magazine covers. They are acknowledged as part in the history of the First World War in the U.S. and got several recognitions and medals for it. Until today, pit bulls are acclaimed around the world. - 20511

The Australian Cattle Dog

The Australian Cattle Dog

by Troy Richardson

Dog historians until now are having difficulty in determining the parents of Australian Cattle Dog. As far as history is concerned, there were numerous experimentations done to produce a breed ideal for the Australian outback. In 1897, the breed gained distinction as a new breed separate from the Australian Shepherd.

Ancestors of this dog breed were the collies and dingoes. The resulting offspring was bred to Bull Terrier in 1870s by Fred Davis. In the late 19th century and early 20th century, the newly discovered breed was common for serving as guard dogs and sporting companion.

All those dog types that make up the perfect heeler as an offspring have one thing in common"being unafraid of cattle. With the Australian Cattle dogs sturdiness and agility, herding the cattle with it is very easy. Although this time, this dog breed is seldom used for cattle herding; they are often owned as a pet.

This breed type is also referred by several names such as Heelers, Red Heelers, Blue Heelers, Queensland Blue Heelers, and Queensland Red Heelers. Australian Cattle Dogs derived their attributes from parent breeds such as agility, intelligence, and versatility and these give the owner enough satisfaction to have them as pet and helper. With their exceptional physical strength and smartness, this breed is also ideal to serve as a guard dog or sporting companion.

Easily identified physical appearance of this breed includes longer body with slightly curved tail. Legs are flawlessly straight when viewed from the front. It has pointed pricked ears and slightly rounded head.

Its pointed pricked ears and broad, bit rounded head are the distinctive physical features. Dark brown eyes are medium-sized and oval in shape. Its coat is composed of short dense undercoat and short straight outer coat, making its body cold and heat resistant.

Maintain the dogs overall health requirements by allowing it to engage in activities that enhances its stamina. Any activities such as tossing a ball and flyball games are already good in training this breeds physical and mental health. This dog is also an excellent jogging companion.

Australian Cattle Dogs life expectancy reaches from 12 years up to 15 years. Such life expectancy wont be met if the owner knows nothing about the inevitable hereditary disorders of this dog type. However, this breed has something to be proud of above all other breeds because it was recorded by Guinness Book of World Records that an Australian Cattle Dog has lived for 29 earth years or 203 dog years. - 20511

St. Bernard: The Large Rescue Dog Of The Snowy Alps

St. Bernard: The Large Rescue Dog Of The Snowy Alps

by Troy Richardson

The gigantic and black-eyed St. Bernard was primarily the Swiss Alps' search and rescue dog. In fact, countless heroic stories can attest to these events and many people have lived to tell their stories about how valiant the St. Bernards are. Today, however, not only is this dog considered as the ultimate hero of the Alps but a loyal and reliable companion of many families as well.

The St. Bernard is considered as a Molossoid breed and its ancestors were the massive Molossoid breeds of the Roman soldiers and the Sennenhunds, which were the herding and hunting dogs of the Alps then. The current appearance of the St. Bernard is not the original one because there was a time before when the breed endangered because many St. Bernards slowly got killed during avalanches. To continue the breed's existence, Newfoundlands were used and the results are the present appearance of St. Bernards.

The name St. Bernard came from the hospice at St. Bernard Pass in the Western Alps, a region between Switzerland and Italy. This pass is dangerous and travelers often seek shelter with the monks in this hospice. The dogs of this community, which are used for search and rescue, were named after the pass and this pass was named after Bernard of Menthon, an 11th century monk who founded the place.

Prior to the official name of St. Bernard, this breed was known as Saint dog, Noble steed, Alpenmastiff or Barry dog. One famous rescue story tells of a St. Bernard named Barry, which saved 40 to 100 people at the pass. Because of this heroic and unforgettable deed, Barry was founded a monument at the Cimetiere des Chiens and his body was preserved at the National History Museum at Berne.

The St. Bernard is a heavy and gigantic breed of dog that weighs as much as 160 to 260 pounds and stands 27 1/2 to 35 1/2 inches at the withers. The tail of this dog is usually long, heavy and low set but turns up slightly. The eyes are innately tight lid and the face and ears are usually shaded in black.

This dog's coat can be smooth or rough and that the smooth coat fairly fits the body and is flat. The rough textured coat is flat and dense especially around the neck and legs. The coat colors for this breed are red with white and mahogany brindle with white.

As a house pet, the St. Bernard is reliable, hardworking and eager to please. It is also understanding and patient with children and if it is properly socialized when small, it can be tolerant with smaller animals too during adulthood. This breed is also not so hard to train because it is intelligent and obedient.

This dog, although large, is not as energetic but instead gentle and affable. It does not need a wide space to live on and so an apartment and a small yard would suffice him. Daily exercise for this dog is only comprised of a long walk and this will make him stay healthy mentally and physically. - 20511
