Making Yorkshire Terriers Beautiful With Proper Grooming

Making Yorkshire Terriers Beautiful With Proper Grooming

by Bubby Gibby Bella Gibby

Yorkshire terriers are famous for their soft, flowing coats. But, it takes a great deal of care to keep the coat in tip-top condition. Fortunately, it is easy to learn how to care for your Yorkie's coat.

The Yorkie is acknowledged for its long & flowing coat, to maintain this appearance the fur requires daily grooming. Yorkies possess what is acknowledged as a 'single coat,' simply meaning that they do not have an undercoat.

Most shampoo made for persons can actually irritate the the tissue forming the external covering of the body of Yorkshire Terriers. Yorkshire terrier the tissue forming the external covering of the body has a lower tolerance to cleaning up solutions than human the tissue forming the external covering of the body does. One of the causes of irritation is that Yorkshire terrier the tissue forming the external covering of the body has different PH needs; so using a human's shampoo can dry your full-breeds the tissue forming the external covering of the body out causing annoyance to you and him.

Before starting, make sure that you have everything you will need close at hand. There's nothing more frustrating than discovering that you are missing something as you are holding a soggy canine in the middle of their bath.

Don't scrub your Yorky's coat excessively. When washing your sweet pet the clean up solution of the hair soap will lift the dirt by itself. No extreme scrubbing required. Rubbing lightly with your hand lessens the take a chance of tangling the coat. Using tearless puppy or pooch hair soap can greatly enhance the experience for you and your Yorkie. You need only use puppy tearless hair soap around the eyes.

Rinse thoroughly; leftover hair soap can irritate the skin. since shampooing, condition the coat with a light conditioner. Let it sit for a while, as directed, then rinse it out.

Possibly the nicest part of getting a bath is getting dry. Because you don't want to mess his fleece by scrubbing him dry, it is best to wrap you little guy up in a towel and cuddle him for a while. Take advantage of this snuggle time to love your boy up, and enjoy his company.

When your canine is no longer dripping, it is time to grow his fur into tip-top shape.

A light spray of water or conditioner makes it much easier to work out any snares.

Refrain from using a natural bristle brush, as they are likely to 'snag' the Yorky's coat. The best type of comb for the fine, silken fleece of the Yorky is a good quality pin comb with a rubber backing to it.

Finally, take a long tined metal comb, and comb through the coat. It is amazing how many small snags remain, even anon a thorough brushing.

To complete your Yorkie's look, it is needful to do a few touch-ups.

Some owners prefer to keep their Yorkshire terriers clipped short for ease, this is a good scheme but you must ensure that you are prepared to keep this up every few months.

The paws should be trimmed so that the mane spreads in a nice round shape.

Trim the fuzz near his anus to about 1" long, to keep him clean.

To keep your Yorkie's ears upright, it is needful to keep them well trimmed. Excess fleece will in fact weigh them down. Using clippers, trim the upper 1/3 of the ear, both on the inside and outside. The back of the ear should be trimmed in a downward-pointing triangle.

Never attempt to stick anything into your Yorky's ears, simply absolutely wipe around the outer ear & very gently around the inner ear. Look at your Yorky's ears regularly & become accustomed to their regular appearance, this way you will be instantly aware if anything alters.

Many people use a bow to tie up the fuzz between the pooch's ears. A lot of people mistake the band or bow placed so perfectly in the pooch's mane as entirely a decorative piece, in truth without it the pooch's fuzz would be constantly in its eyes.

You should also give his nails a quick trim.

Brush his teeth anon each bath, and have them checked annually by your vet.

Of course these other checks do not have to be completed on a daily basis but it is a good scheme to adopt a regular routine, perhaps every couple of days.

Help to keep your Yorky delighted & well by grooming him/her regularly, since all if your pooch is delighted you are happy! - 20511

Take The Worry Away - Hire A Pet Sitter

Take The Worry Away - Hire A Pet Sitter

by Exo Skelie

Modern America is now epitomized by a growing number of pet owners who see pets as family and friends rather than merely animals that have to be fed. Previously, pet ownership was delegated to families especially since at least one member, mostly the mothers, were at home to extend care to their pets. Today, however, even working singles and couples are taking on the responsibility of caring for pets.

Based on the 2005-2006 National Pet Owner Survey of the America Pet Products Association, pet ownership is now 63% of the country's total households. Most of these households prefer dogs, birds and cats for pets. This is mainly due to their loving personalities as well as their faithfulness to their owners, traits that pet owners are endeared to. In return for such love, owners also lavish their pets with attention and affection.

Realistically, owners cannot always provide such love and care especially since their daily routine goes beyond home and work. Oftentimes, they face the dilemma of not knowing where or to whom they could safely entrust their pets when they have to be away for a long period of time either for vacation, an emergency trip or out-of-town engagements. For some owners, a day away from their pets is already agonizing, while for others, being away for more than a day is a big problem.

In the past, pet owners faced such dilemma by requesting their neighbors to regularly feed and occasionally look after their pets, or hauling their pets to a kennel or a relative's house. These options are cumbersome for both the owners and pets: the owners for having to necessitate care for their pets from different people and the pets for having to deal with unfamiliar faces and environment. For pets, new faces and places can be very stressful, and to some extent, traumatic.

The good news for pet owners is that there is a better option to those previously mentioned. Pet sitting is a relatively new service in America which provides personalized care to pets while their owners are away. Pet sitting addresses two of the immediate problems often encountered by pet owners: unfamiliar care-givers and environment.

Pet sitting services allocate one pet sitter to an owner. The sitter will be the same face that a pet sees every time the service is needed. As such, familiarity and regularity is established within the pet's environment, reducing its stress when its owner is not around. Pet sitters make sure that the habitual activities (e.g. food intake, recreation, physical training and grooming) are strictly followed, aside from the special instructions that owners usually request (e.g. scheduled vet check-up and medication). Pet sitters also ensure that pets are showered with love and attention the way their owners treat them.

For owners who avail of pet sitting services, they are assured that caregiving is given only by professional pet sitters. As such, they make sure that all pet-related concerns are reported to owners which may at times be overlooked. These include following vaccination schedules and methods in enhancing a pet's health and behavior. The bonus? Owners are assured that their homes, apart from their pets, are safe while they are away.

Stressed by leaving your adorable pet to strangers? Switch to pet sitting. You might get more than what this article has just described. - 20511

No Scraps: A key step in your Dogs Diet

No Scraps: A key step in your Dogs Diet

by Daniel Ortega

Most familiar sight to every pet owner, who has sat down to a meal with dog in room, your furry friend scoots as close to the table as you can get. His large, sad eyes looking forward - first to you, then on your plate. He licks his chops over and over again, hoping to get a single morsel of what they are eating. Is not as difficult as giving in to the sad, soulful eyes, there are many reasons not to feed your dog table scraps. The most obvious reason is because many of the foods eaten by humans are not good for dogs. The best diet for a dog is a consistent diet. Talk to your veterinarian about the amount of food to give your dog, then the same amount at the same time each day. There are ways to make your meals more interesting, as the addition of sauce that is made for dogs, without sacrificing good health.

Table scraps do not provide the nutrition that dogs need. Tossing your dog a piece of chicken from time to time is different than feeding your dog a diet that consists mostly of scraps from the table. Dogs need different things that make human nutrition, and the best way for dogs to get what they need is to eat a food that has been formulated for dogs. Even if offered nutritious food for dogs, along with an abundance of table scraps, they are less likely to eat their own food if you are filling in yours. A dog's diet really should not contain traces of table. People food is just that ... for people. A dog's nutritional needs are not the same as a human. Surely, some eat the same things, but feeding your pet on the table is one of the biggest mistakes of your pet. A dog's diet does not need all the added benefits that our meals.

It is best to feed your dog a dry food that is recommended by your veterinarian. This will vary depending on race, age and health of your dog. Canned foods should be given sparingly. It is very rich and can cause diarrhea. Another alternative is the preparation of food for their animals is done with lamb, turkey or chicken combined with vegetables and whole grains. There are many resources for information on the preparation of these home-cooked meals. The dogs have different taste buds that humans so you may need to experiment with ingredients for foods that are healthy and tasty for your pet. People have problems with obesity. A dog can have this problem, too. If your dog's diet consists mainly of remnants of dinner, chances are high that your dog has trouble maintaining a healthy weight. Even a few pounds over weight can really make a difference in the quality and lifespan of your pet. Stop the begging and stick to their guns.

When you have a dog that is not a dining selective, it may be tempting to let your pet be the collection of garbage at home, but in reality, this is not a good idea. Some people foods can harm your dog and should never be a part of your dog's diet. Grapes, for example, are known to cause serious problems for dogs, even death. Chicken bones and popcorn can also be a problem for your dog. Allowing large amounts of chocolate can be dangerous in a dog's diet.

The most important factor is to ensure that the animal is receiving adequate nutrition to ensure a long and healthy life. With the recent incidence of contamination of pet food that will take longer in the choice of safe foods for your pets. - 20511

Steps To Take To Remove Cat Urine From Your Carpet

Steps To Take To Remove Cat Urine From Your Carpet

by Sonia Kekkonen

Trying to get cat urine out of carpet is for some people in the same category as having a root canal.Yes, it is distressing and it is easy to get angry with the cat. Who wants a smelly house?

Cat urine is one of the more challenging odors to remove especially when not using proper cleaning products. When cat urine is allowed to dry in a carpet, amino acids in the urine actually bonds with the fibers of the rug.

The salts in the urine also bonds with the carpet through an ionic charge. These bonds will get stronger the longer the urine is in contact with the carpet. Homemade cleaners will not release these bonds. Steam cleaning will not release the bonds either, sometimes steam cleaning will make it worse.

Some cleaners available do nothing more than mask the smell. Other cleaners use chemical agents that attempt to absorb the smell.

There may be an immediate relief from odor using these products, (or a home made one) but as you may have noticed, the smell comes back especially on damp, humid days. In order to eliminate the urine totally and comlpetely, you need to use a cleaner which will actually consume the urine. This is done with a cleaner containing not only enzymes but bacteria as well.

So, you got cat pee on your rug? What is the first thing you should do?

1. Blot or mop up as much urine as possible. Lay down absorbent towels and walk on them. Care should be taken if water is added to the spot -it can easily spread and make clean-up more difficult.

2. Use a cleaner based on enzymes that will actually consume the urine. Inject it into the padding, and then spray on top of the carpet. Pet the cleaner into the carpet.

3. You are done! That is all that needs to be done when you use the proper tools. Prevent your cat from accessing the spot for a few days until it is completely dry.

Remember, even though it may be easy when you are "in the moment", do not scold your cat. Cats are fastidious about cleanliness and do not want to eliminate where they eat, sleep or play.

Some of the "good" reasons may be that kitty has a urinary tract infection and has associated the litter box with pain. Maybe the box isn't clean? Maybe there is a new litter not acceptable, or possibly another cat is aggressive whenever kitty wants to use the box. Finding the cause may be crucial to your success.

Armed with the correct information and the proper products cleaning the urine from your carpet while preventing the behavior to re-occur, you are well on your way to have a happy purring kitty and a clean smelling home. - 20511

Crate Training Dogs

Crate Training Dogs

by Craig Clemins

If you are thinking about training your dog or puppy, you may want to consider the crate training approach. It is one of the most popular methods used these days for training dogs. A Crate (cage) is usually made from plastic of wire and comes in a variety of sizes and shapes. Crate training has be proven to be beneficial for both the trainer and the dog.

The main reason that crate training dogs is so effective during toilet training is that canines dont like to go to the toilet where they sleep. Given that the crate is where the dog will sleep during potty training, the dog begins to learn to hold the urge to go to the toilet until it is let out of the crate.

When crate training dogs (or puppies) the crate is meant to replicate the puppies den. The puppy will usually stay in the crate at all times except for feeding and supervised play times. When the puppy is let free from the crate it should be taken to the toilet area immediately.

The crate should be big enough for your dog to move around in but not so big that there is excess space (the puppy may use the excess space to pee). A good crate size is about 1.5 times the length of your dog and about 6-7 inches taller than your dog. If your crate is too long for your particular dog you can modify it by simply blocking of one end of the crate. Plastic crates are the easiest to clean and also the lightest so we recommend these over other construction methods.

You should take your puppy to the toilet fairly regularly during the crate training period. As your puppy grows you can reduce the number of times it is let out of the crate each day as it will get used to holding its urges to go to the toilet.

The crate should not be associated with anything negative " it needs to be a place your puppy wants to be. You can do this by feeding your puppy close to the crate and eventually inside the crate. Also make your puppies crate more homely by padding it with newspaper and putting a couple of your pups favourite toys inside. Rewards for good behaviour can be given inside the crate to further reinforce that its a nice place to be.

Never use your dogs crate as a place of punishment or a prison. Dogs shouldnt be locked in crates for long periods of time as this can make them take a disliking to the crate. Dont leave your dog in its crate when you are not at home.

Crates can be very convenient for transporting your dog or puppy. Crates are useful when travelling in the car with your dog and are required for all air travel.

Not everyone is a fan of crate training. Some professional trainers look down on the method sighting that dogs can become too emotionally attached to their crates after being locked inside them for long periods of time.

What Would A stroller Do To Your Cat's Life?

What Would A stroller Do To Your Cat's Life?

by Sonia Kekkonen

I saw something the other month that I'd never seen before. At first I thought it was strange, but the more I thought about it, the more sense it made. I'm talking about cat pet strollers.

Have you ever seen one of these? They're becoming more popular, but I live in a small town, and I'd never seen one before in my life. Like I said, at first I wondered why in the world anyone would want a stroller for their cat. But as I kept thinking about it, it made more and more sense. And now, I've also the proud owner of a pet stroller.

Cat pet strollers may seem like an extravagant luxury, but they're not. You're probably thinking, oh, come on, who ever takes their cat out for a walk? But that's the whole point.

Dogs love going out for walks. They'll go with you all day long. The truth is cats love going on walks as well, they just don't conform well with walking on a leash.

Walking your cat on a leash IS possible, but does have risks associated with it. Were your cat to freak out over a dog or something else that frightens her, she could cause harm not only to herself, but also to you. With a stroller though, all that would be avoided.

The wonderful thing with a stroller is that now you can bring your kitty along woth you when you go for a walk, or when you go for a jog while your feline friend is safely within the stroller.

Strollers can have a ton of fun uses. Anywhere you go out, kitty can come along. On the patio, in the back yard, while you do yard work, while sitting on the porch in the evening. Get your kitty a stroller today. Her life will improve by leaps and bounds - 20511

Top Social Training Techniques For Puppies

by Jack Hamersom

One of the most important training skills a puppy must be taught in order to be sure that both the dog and the people it comes in contact with will be safe. I puppy with good social skills will be a happier dog, and will make them a more enjoyable pet to have in the home. A puppy with poor social skills is not only miserable, but can also pose a danger to both humans and other pets around it.

The best time to start training your puppy and teaching them social behavior is when they are puppies, so that they do not start to learn bad habits, and the dog is starting with a clean slate. What your puppy will learn in the first months and years will affect the way the puppy acts for the rest of its life.

A dog that has been trained are has learned proper socializing skills will be able to be around humans and other pets without showing signs of aggressive. Instead, they will look and this as a chance to meet new pets and people, and will enjoy the time spent in new surroundings as opposed to stressed, scared, and lashing out at others.

When looking to start teaching your puppy social skills the prime age to start training them is around 12 weeks. It is during this time that social training will be most effective for your puppy, and it is much harder to teach a puppy these skills after the 12 week window is gone.

My Dog Hudson

My Dog Hudson

by Nui Kahuna

Last night I was cleaning up my office which has been in a horrible state of disarray since the end of July or so. I kept putting off cleaning it up, but it finally got to me. I started in about four in the afternoon, and was still working at midnight, and I suppose I am about half way through the process. Around twelve thirty I opened a box to see what was in it, and I came upon some photos that were taken about twenty years ago.

Photos of me and my Hudson, my good friend and pet dog. Hudson was a half St. Bernard, half German Shepherd and with this breed, he was a pretty big dog, weighing 145 pounds of hound. His job was to protect his master, he was trained for it.

I have never tied him with a leash throughout the years I had him. Hudson was a smart dog, I rarely had to tell him what to do, he sensed what needed to be done, I seldom ask him to stay cause he never strayed, and we always walked together.

Hudson loved to play with me, with kids or with other dogs. He would fetch a ball 300 times, he'd play with other dogs, and he loved to play with small kids and lay down on them or he'd let the kids come to him.

My Hudson was never mean nor wild. He was very disciplined. He took everything so calmly. Even if he felt there was a threat, he'd just stand with his paw and gaze at them like challenging or warning them not to do a wrong move. He had knocked a few mooks with his paws though, but he never bit one.

Sadly, Hudson was killed during a deer hunting trip by a stray bullet. Who did it, I have not discovered because they left the area quickly. I buried him on a mountain, so he could see the whole valley. Hudson is more than just a dog, he did his job far beyond one can expect, he had always alerted me to danger I didn't see many times. He had a good life.

Hudson was gone quite a while, no more pet to alert me from any danger. But, I have this virtual alarm system called Secure Dog, that uses a radar like wave to see through bricks, cement, glass and wood.

The virtual alarm system can feel a presence of someone within 22 feet, then starts barking like crazy. You are then alarmed that there's a mook outside your house. Now, I feel like I have my Hudson back.

Junkies hates noise, it's against their agenda. And most of them are in fact are scared of big dogs, especially big dogs. With Secure Dog, it provides you the Big Dog sound alert, without having to spend for dog food or for a vet check up. - 20511

Keep You and Your Dog Happy

Keep You and Your Dog Happy

by Rice Amire

There are a lot of obvious advantages when you give importance to proper dog care for your pet.

When talking about provide the best care for your dog, we primarily mean to keep your dog as happy and healthy as possible.

This is precisely why it is strongly advised for pet owners to weigh each and every aspect about getting a dog for a pet. Dogs are very sociable creatures. They do not hesitate to interact with people at all. And if you are incredibly busy with work, you just might fail in giving your dog that healthy environment he would need.

Before getting a dog for a pet, you should then weigh out if you would be able to give your dog the quality time and care it needs from you. If you deprive your dog of this, he would most likely grow to be one of the unhealthy dogs that are very prone to malnutrition. Your dog could also develop allergies because of this.

Just as we should watch what we eat, so should dogs. However, dogs do not have a choice in what they eat as they must look to us to feed them. Therefore, it is our responsibility as the dog owner to figure out what food best fits your dog. Feeding your dog with appropriate dog food filled with the necessary vitamins and minerals helps your dog life a long and healthy life.

You see, there are indeed some brands that come with chemicals that can prove to be too dangerous for your pet to take in. This would defeat the purpose of dog care altogether now. Thus, in choosing dog food, just consult your local vet.

Also, it is important not to overfeed your dog. Now, you may think there is no such thing as overfeeding when it comes to dog care, but there actually is. Overfeeding can very well lead to indigestion for your pet, and the only way to relieve this is to bring your pet to your vet. To ensure dog care, its better to just avoid this altogether. - 20511

The Last Dog Training Course You Need

The Last Dog Training Course You Need

by Irene W. Boucher

Now that you're the grown-up, do you ever wonder how your parents tolerated your childhood pets? If your house was anything like mine, than they were more wild than tamed when not actually in the presence of people. Somehow it seems like a bigger deal now to have a lamp get smashed. Face it, you're going to have to look into a dog training course. That decision made, how do you know who's reputable and who's just after your money?

Is a dog training course really necessary and what are the benefits? For one there is the safety of your children. A properly trained dog is proportionately less likely to bite. You and your dog will be able to have more fun because you won't be afraid to take him/her out to the local park to play catch.

What's your learning style? Do you learn best by reading, by seeing something done or through verbal instructions? Knowing the answer to this question will help you to narrow down your search considerably and make the process easier for you and the animal. If you are uncomfortable your dog WILL pick up on this, delaying the process.

Now that you know your training preferences, the dog breeder where you got your dog from could be one of your first stops. Most established breeders got that way by entering their dogs into shows to proof the pedigree. So this is going to be a person who knows what they are talking about. Build a rapport and you may even learn some of their personal secrets.

An often overlooked den of information is the humane society, but the staff and volunteers who care for the animals there do so for genuine love of animals. They spend day after day working to turn the meanest animals into docile pets deserving of a good home. It stands to reason then, that they may have learned more than a few tricks in their tenure. Another reason to visit the shelter is that they often offer discounted training courses.

You can visit dog parks, or other locales that dog owners and their charges frequent. Watch for well-behaved dogs and approach the owner. Ask how they went about training their dogs. The answers you receive this way may be quite different from the breeder's and that will help you to tailor your experience to you and your dog.

Ultimately, you may even opt for a home-based dog training course. This will allow you to train your puppy in an environment that is already comfortable and familiar for both of you. Many professional dog trainers have begun to market video-based courses as well as books. - 20511

7 Tips To Modify Aggression Employing Dog Behavior Modification

7 Tips To Modify Aggression Employing Dog Behavior Modification

by M.B. Bryce

Your training needs to establish you and your family as the "alpha" status in the pack. That resigns your dog to the base of the pack pecking order. Once the family demonstrates leadership over the dog, questions correlated to power may oftentimes be settled. This is why the communality and dog behavior modification are awfully necessary.

7 Tips for Dog Behavior Modification

1. Administer rewards. Stress to yourself that your dog can have anything he chooses if he is willing to work for it. So, it is essential to reward all good, unplanned dog behavior modification. Stay on your toes! Canines will astound you!

2. Curb the food store. Since food is such a prized commodity, it is imperative to make your dog realize you oversee this valuable resource.

3. Restrict cuddling. Patting, and the compliance that goes with it, is a convincing reward for most dogs and as such should be rationed in the very way as food.

4. Distribute appreciation. Praise may be another greatly appreciated asset for which alpha dogs should be forced to work. Approving a canine repeatedly weakens the desirability of this otherwise much valued acknowledgment.

5. Utilize toys as rewards. The provision of toys is a privilege for which dominant dogs have to work.

6. Restrict sports. Games are fun, and as such, must be conserved. You have to introduce all activities and you determine when they are done.

7. Let your canine warrant freedom. Freedom is one of life's liberties and with privilege comes the requirement for social obligation and admiration.

Dog behavior modification is key when dogs use aggression to assert bad behavior. Keep in mind that YOU ARE THE BOSS...YOU CONTROL what happens. - 20511

7 Tips To Correct Aggression Utilizing Dog Behavior Modification

7 Tips To Correct Aggression Utilizing Dog Behavior Modification

by M.B. Bryce

Your training needs to establish you and your family as the "alpha" position in the pack. That relinquishes your canine to the bottom of the pack hierarchy. Once the family establishes command over the canine, issues linked to control can oftentimes be fixed. This is why the socialization and dog behavior modification are awfully necessary.

7 Techniques for Dog Behavior Modification

1. Administer rewards. Stress to yourself that your dog can have anything he chooses if he is willing to work for it. So, it is essential to reward all good, unplanned dog behavior modification. Stay on your toes! Canines will astound you!

2. Oversee the food supply. As food is such a highly regarded commodity, it is important to make your canine realize you manage this treasured resource.

3. Ration rubbing. Petting, and the acceptance that goes with it, is a dynamic reward for most dogs and as such should be conserved in the very way as food.

4. Ration approval. Praise may be another greatly admired treasure for which dominant dogs must be forced to work. Approving a canine perpetually dilutes the implication of this otherwise much treasured recognition.

5. Use toys as rewards. The stipulation of toys is a liberty for which alpha dogs must work.

6. Restrict games. Games are amusing, and as such, must be restricted. You have to introduce all activities and you determine when they are done.

7. Let your pet gain liberty. Liberty is one of life's privileges and with freedom comes the desire for social obligation and respect.

Dog behavior modification is imperative when dogs use aggression to insist on bad behavior. Remember that YOU ARE THE ALPHA DOG...YOU DETERMINE what happens. - 20511

What Makes The Miniature Pinscher Dog A Great Pet?

What Makes The Miniature Pinscher Dog A Great Pet?

by Ned Dagostino

What's the first thing you think of when you hear about the Miniature Pinscher? Many think he's a miniature Doberman. Others think he's simply yappy and tends to bite. Owners of this breed can tell you none of that is true.

In actuality, the Min Pin is fun loving, loyal and intelligent. He's earned his nickname as the King of the Toys.

When you're getting a Miniature Pinscher you're definitely getting a dog with an attitude. He's been called a big dog in a small dog's body. Min Pins only weigh about 10 pounds, but act like they are much bigger. And they are full of pride, which you can witness by the way they step high and hold their head high when they walk. This is a proud breed.

Combine the pride with the Miniature Pinscher's fierce loyalty to his owner and his tremendous courage, and you have a great watchdog. But in all fairness, they can also be a handful.

Min Pins can become almost tyrannical, running your house for you. If you own this breed you simply need to establish early on that you are the one in charge. Some Min Pin owners may have trouble disciplining their pet simply because he's so cute. Don't make this mistake. You'll find that because this breed is so intelligent that training is fairly easy.

And if trained properly they are incredible pets. They are loving, loyal and very playful. And quite simply, they are fun to watch. They are the stand up comedians of the dog world.

Just make sure that if you have children, they don't play too rough. Yes the Min Pin is sturdy and incredibly playful, but he does only weigh 10 pounds. It's easy to forget how small he is when playing.

We briefly mentioned loyalty earlier. There are very few dogs that are more loyal than a Min Pin. And although his tendency is to become extremely attached on one person in particular, he will get along well with everyone in your family.

Because they have so much energy, Miniature Pinschers need plenty of exercise. But the good news is that if you don't have the energy to keep up, their size means they can get all the exercise they need just running around your apartment or home. They love to play by themselves and if you're watching, they seem to perform more just for your enjoyment. You can't help but laugh.

And when it's time to settle down your Min Pin will be right there next to you. They are fun, smart, loyal, and easy to care for. What more would you want in a family pet? - 20511

Training for your Chihuahua

Training for your Chihuahua

by John Savage

There is a myth about training Chihuahuas. Most people believe that Chihuahuas are one of the hardest breeds to train, but in reality, this only refers to housebreaking, due to the fact that Chihuahuas have an overwhelming need to mark their territory. However, when it comes to obeying commands or doing tricks, Chihuahuas are highly trainable, and quite intelligent.

And you can train them by rewarding them when they get something right. For example, if you want them to sit when you go to answer the door, then reward them with a treat when they do it, and they will get into the habit of doing that.

However, if they get negative results, they are not likely to try something a second time. This is why it is essential that you understand that discipline should not be used when it comes to training your Chihuahua. It simply is not effective at all.

And when it does come right then go over the top with your praise, and your treats, and there is every good chance that they will do the same again for you.

And another thing to think about is how you plan to give your commands. Will it be by voice, hand signals, or Clicker? Unless you are going to show your dog, I would suggest using verbal commands.

Training sessions shouldnt last more than fifteen minutes, but you can have two or three training sessions per day. Be sure not to skip any days, and try to hold the sessions at the same time each day. Start and end each training session with a trick or command that the dog has mastered.

And never forget that your Chihuahua is perfectly capable of learning any command that you want it to learn, it just may take time, so patience is a virtue here.

Remember that these are highly intelligent dogs and the secret to your success in training is to praise them reward them and give them regular treats. At first you will need to spend time on your training, but it will be time well spent. - 20511

We can help but love our pets and they're quickly becoming part of our lives. We would never want to hurt them but sometimes we're doing things or not doing things that will actually have a negative effect on their health and physical condition.

Pet food have long been debated but more and more studies show that a lot of the illnesses and serious conditions that make our pets suffer is cause by us as pet owners. Not feeding the pets a high quality food will in effect have their immune system become less effective.

Eating poor nutrition and not getting the right amount of minerals, vitamins and proteins will have a slow but ever growing negative effect on any living being. The fastest and easiest solution to poor pet nutrition is to go get an appointment with your VET and have them recommend you on what to do. You'll of cause need to follow their advice in order for it to work.

One of the main problems and probably also the reasons for so many people feeding their pets poor nutritional food is that high quality food is quite costly and a lot of pet owners can't (or won't) afford it. Because of this their pets will suffer the consequences.

But however you twist and turn it the outcome will still be the same. Malnutrition will lead to poor health, more illnesses and will result in our pets living a mediocre life. With a poor immune system viruses will sneak in on them and you'll find them becoming ill more often as time goes by.

Poor food will also result in poor level of energy and excitement. It will also greatly increase the likelihood of incidents where your pet might get injured. Breaking some of its bones or getting hit by traffic are just some of the things that are more likely to happen.

With low levels of energy and when missing the essential building blocks of the body an accident or a serious illness will tend to go on for a lot longer because the body will not be as likely to heal itself fast.

So maybe you should instead consider signing up for a pet insurance plan as that might become necessary if your pet gets ill and needs medication or if it gets into an accident that surgery and hospital bills might become something that you will need to find the money to pay for. - 20511

Cavalier Rescue: It's a Good Story

Cavalier Rescue: It's a Good Story

by Graeme Landis

Our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel love story began when Treva and I got Oliver for my 50th birthday.

(Flashback) At the ripe old age of 4 years, I became the proud owner of Whimpy, a black Cocker Spaniel farm dog. He became my best buddy. We chased rabbits together in the fields and generally had a wonderful time around the farm in Northwest Oklahoma. Whimpy went with us when we moved to Wichita, Kansas for my Dad to finish his education. Then came the big move to California. My Dad decided that it was in Whimpys best interest to stay on my Uncles farm in Oklahoma rather than have to learn to be a city dog in California. I was 9 years old when Whimpy and I wept together (I wept and I am sure Whimpy did too, even though I couldn't prove it.) during my long goodbye talk with him on the back step of the old two story house on South Dodge Street. We moved to California and Whimpy lived on to be 14 years old before he finally ran out of dog lives on my Uncles farm. It was a sad day when I heard that Whimpy had finally passed away.

After I was married I repeatedly told my wife, Treva, and our kids that one day I would have another Cocker like Whimpy. He had a very special place in my heart. Well, just before my 50th birthday, my wife and two grown kids all said, Dad, if youre ever going to get another Cocker Spaniel, its about time you did it. Well, I said, youre right. I had better do it. But, I had heard that some improper breeding had allowed some serious defects to become common in the breed, so I decided I would do a little homework before buying a problem I wouldn't wan to live with. My reading confirmed the hearsay and I decided I didnt want to take a chance on a Cocker. So, I decided my next dog wasnt going to be a Cocker after all. I still did want to get that dog that was going to be my good buddy like Whimpy was. So, Treva and I sat down and first made a shopping list of the characteristics of the dog we wanted to have in our home. It had to be small, have the sweet soft look of the spaniels, have a sweet temperament and require that I get out and give him a good walk on a regular basis (because, of all things, I needed the exercise).

Eventually, we discovered the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. And in particular, we found Oliver. He was a joy and about 9 months later we decided he needed a friend and so we then. found Emma Rose, a female Cavalier. What a wonderful life we had together for 12+ years before they both succumbed to Mitral Valve Disease, a heart condition all too common in Cavaliers. With a great amount of grief and lots of tears we sent Emma Rose off to the Rainbow Bridge shortly before her 12th birthday as she battled with her second episode of congestive heart failure. Ten weeks later and shortly before Olivers 13th birthday I sat on the floor of the Vets office and loved on him as Doc and I said goodbye to my sweet good buddy Oliver " also sometimes known as Whimpy II " a second tearful goodbye following years of joyful delight with the two of them, Emma Rose and Oliver

Almost immediately after they were gone I began noticing how Treva was pining for the presence of a Cavalier in the house. She would talk about getting another puppy but I knew that with the changes that had taken place in our lives that a brand new little puppy wouldnt work for us. So, we turned to Cavalier Rescue and after a couple of false starts, we were rewarded with Max. What a character that little tri-color is. Four and a half years old, full of life and sprinkled with a fair amount of mischief and at least as much love. Max was in pretty good shape. He ahd been well cared for. His previous owner had run into some financial hardship and couldnt afford to keep him.

About a year after Max joined us, we were called upon to help out with another rescue situation that wasnt so good. There was an older female Cavalier, probably ten years old, no one knew for sure, who had been abandoned and picked up by an Orange County shelter and there was no one closer than us to pick her up. At first, we were just going to act as foster parents until a home opened up for her. Then we saw her, Charlotte Rose. Charlotte was the scrawniest, most pathetic little thing I had ever seen. She was on the verge of final starvation. Most of the fur from her body was gone due to extreme flea allergy dermatitis. She was very anemic and had mammary tumors along with a fair amount of arthritis. It was quite obvious that some cruel breeder had just pumped all the puppies they could out of her and then abandoned her on the streets of Orange County. Its a wonder she didnt become a Coyote dinner. She also had a slight heart murmur, the first tell tale sign of Mitral Valve Disease - the same disease that took Oliver and Emma Rose. There was a terrible odor from the awful skin condition that took several weeks to clear up.

Four months later she is practically unrecognizable. In fact, one neighbor of ours did think we had a new dog when she saw Charlotte after a few months. She has had her treatments for her skin disease with antibiotics and two baths a week with medicated shampoo the first few weeks. And she started out with 4 big meals per day, countem, 4! As soon as she had gained enough strength she was spayed and had all the tumors removed " major surgery for such a weak little one. Then came a good dental treatment and cleaning during which she had several extractions to clear up some problems in her mouth. She has increased her body weight by 17.5%! She's no fatty either, just a healthy weight for her skeleton. I have been thrilled with how healthy her coat has grown back in. It is really thick. Charlotte Rose is now a beautiful Cavalier old lady " and she found some folks to love her as she deserves. We are happy.

Well, this little short term foster girl is now becoming a permanent resident with Max and Treva and me. She has her new forever home and we have the joy of another wonderful Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Its a good story. - 20511

Easy Tips For Training A Puppy

Easy Tips For Training A Puppy

by Kirsten Fanu

Puppies and adult dogs need many things to become good pets. Affection and love are obvious, and effective training techniques are also vital. Beyond that, having an understanding of the individual dog is needed. If you understand your dog and the normal doggy emotional, physical, and cognitive needs, you will be on your way to creating a joyful and fulfilled life with your pets.

Dogs would like you to believe that they are not really furry people. In fact they are not, but majority of them like, perhaps even pleased, to be treated as human beings. If you are one of the people, you will have a comfortable place to relax, delicious food to eat, and can demand attention and get it. And that is what most these dogs get and perhaps even in bigger measure than humans! And the pudding is, they have all the luxuries but absolutely no responsibilities " what a life!

Generally speaking, treating dogs the same as humans is all right, just don't have the expectation that they'll behave like humans in response. In terms of canine obedience, dogs and puppies are unable to think or behave like humans. This doesn't mean they are any less delightful just the way they are, however the fact is, whether you are talking about a mighty Great Dane or a miniature Yorkshire terrier, all dogs share traits with their ancestral wolf relatives - so take this into consideration when (http://www.trainingyourpuppy.org/3) training your puppy.

Dogs would also want you to know that they don't understand English. Until you teach them what a word means, they won't understand it even if you keep repeating it louder and louder. In nature, dogs aren't very vocal. This means that in obedience training, they won't understand words until it has been associated with the appropriate action many, many times over. English is a foreign language to them. It's both unfair and unrealistic to expect your puppy to respond to a command that he has not been properly taught.

Without any training puppies will do whatever feels good for the moment, whether it is tearing into your favorite pair of shoes or stealing that awesome smelling steak off your plate. Part of successfully training your puppy and getting rid of unwanted behavior means providing your dog with acceptable alternatives and making sure they get plenty of exercise whether you take walks or toss a frisbee in the backyard.

There will come a time in the training process when you issue a command that you're convinced your dog understands, and he'll give you a puzzled look as if to say "that doesn't mean anything to me." When and why regression occurs isn't as significant as the way you deal with it. When you anticipate ordinary regression it enables you to handle it and help your dog work through the difficulty. Both of you, dog and trainer, will commit mistakes in the course of training, and that's all right as long as you try to discover the lesson it contains.

There are different hypotheses explaining the reason for learning regression in the puppy training process, or in any facet of life. Among the most popular of these is that regression takes place while the brain is transmitting data from short into long-term memory storage. Regardless of the cause, you can take advantage of it and see it as the training opportunity it really is. - 20511

Control Bad Dog Behaviors

Control Bad Dog Behaviors

Control Bad Dog Behaviors

What to do when Rover exhibits bad dog behaviors

Dog owners derive considerable happiness from these trusty pets. It's known that older people who live alone, but have a dog are happier, healthier and live longer than those who don't have the companionship of a furry friend.

Nonetheless, our beloved canines usually are at least mischevious sometimes, beating you to the newspaper and using it for a bone. At times, in his enthusiasm to love you, he jumps up to give you a hug and snags your favorite sweater on the way down. Then there's downright bad dog behavior, such as snapping when annoyed or chasing the mail carrier. Dogs make wonderful pets, but they all must have training to quell their latent bad dog behavior tendencies. It's best to start this training at an early age, because these bad habits just become harder to break, down the road.

Puppies tend to chew on anything small enough to fit between their paws. This is cute at first, unless it's your prized Steinbeck first edition. You hate to punish this fuzzy little ball with teeth. You needn't be harsh, but you've got to nip this habit in the bud. The old rolled-up newspaper is the best choice for this kind of discipline. It makes a loud noise, but does no more than sting that cute little nose for a moment. Even slapping the floor with the paper can do the trick.

You must catch them in the act and deal with them swiftly. Adding a verbal "Bad dog!" following newspaper application puts a little oomph into the action, as well as paving the way for future disciplinary action. After puppyhood has passed and infractions are fewer, a simple verbal "Bad dog!" is usually enough to correct most minor bad dog behaviors.

Jumping up on people is not something you want to encourage. Most bad dog behavior is cute when they're small, but never when they're grown. A medium sized dog can bowl over a child with disastrous results. When your dog jumps up, grab his front paws and hold them away from you at the same height. Don't allow him to stand down. Quite soon, he'll think this is not a great idea. He wants be on all fours, like a good dog. Hold him upright until he gets fidgety and whines. Gently let him down. You needn't say a word. Don't pet him or he'll be confused, thinking it's some sort of punishment-reward message. After several repeats, he won't jump up on you or anyone else.

A gentle but consistent correction is sufficient to curb most bad dog behaviors. If your pet exhibits any malicious behaviors, such as snapping or biting, it's probably best to engage a professional before the dog gets out of your control.

For all Rover's virtues, there's one character flaw in general: dogs find that roast on the countertop irresistible. I can't help you with that one. - 20511

Find Smart puppies

Find Smart puppies

by Amanda Somrekli

Raising puppies, though often rewarding, can be a great deal of work. When it comes to raising little pups in your home, you should keep in mind that it is a lot of work. To get you going, though, here area few tips on how to raise a good puppy. Keep these in mind through the housebreaking and training and you should have a happy and healthy dog at the end of the road.

However, do not let the puppy out because it is whining. You must allow at least 5 minutes of silence before letting the puppy out. Your pet must never associate whining with being let out of the crate.

There are several things that can be done to make your puppy's first few hours in its new home pleasant and enjoyable. Most of the activities are very simple and will just require a few minutes of time and attention to complete.

The inmates, along with a professional dog trainer, put the dogs through a rigorous program that prepares them for advanced training at the National Education for Assistance Dog Service (NEADS) in central Massachusetts. NEADS is a non-profit organization that provides assistance dogs for the deaf and disabled. They have more than 80 puppies in eight correctional facilities around New England.

The puppies complete their training in four months and are then provided to members of the disabled population through a waiting list. There are approximately 85 people requesting assistance dogs currently.

All vital skills necessary for him to become a healthy happy dog and one who is obedient and recognizes his human family as being part of his world and in charge. During this time it is very important that he remain with his siblings and mother to become confident in the 'dog' world and also be socialized with humans to be confident in the world he will be living in.

When you are well on your way to having your puppy crate trained, you can use the crate for housebreaking, or in other words, as a potty training aid. Here is what you do. When you need to leave your puppy alone, take it outside to go to the bathroom. Once it has "gone," take it inside and put it in the crate.

There are approximately five puppy developmental stages that your puppy will experience and several that will affect you and your family. It is important to realize that the first few weeks of a puppy's life are very important for a long term healthy and well adjusted dog who will be part of your family. The first 12 weeks of a puppy's life are critical for his healthy development.

Pictures also need to be well kept after they have been printed. Since most pictures would stick with each other, you have to keep a thin piece of paper between them to avoid ruining your cute puppy photos.

My daughter was awestruck. The mother recovered and the shock eased. The lovely puppies, watched us. The 12 month old kid who we fed and bathed, and then the crying, but that came from a perfectly healthy baby being born, and all this happening in the house with us. - 20511
