A lot of people want to start training their dogs right away. Whether you have an older dog or a puppy, you are going to need some dog training tools. It is better to start teaching your pup the proper behavior as soon as possible. After all, he is the newest member of your family. You want him to be happy and you want to be happy too. Still, you might not know what to buy. But if you just keep reading, you will know exactly what you need!

All told, there are six tools you really need to start training your new dog. First of all, of course, you need a leash. Usually it is better to get a long one, about six feet long. That way, you can start training your dog in distance and control. The width of the leash depends on the size of your dog. Smaller dogs can get by with more narrow leashes.

You will need the appropriate collar for your dog. Most dog owners agree that a training color is best. You should get a "jeweled" one. That basically means that it is made of metal links which have been welded together in close proximity. These collars are very strong.

You will need some behavioral tools, such as a shake can. These can be made at home, with an empty can and some pennies or small stones You can also purchase one at a pet supply store. It will allow you to make a loud noise to get your dog attention when he is doing something he shouldn't.

You will need a crate to start dog training with. They are ideal for behavioral training and as a disciplinary tool. The crate you buy should be based on how big or small your dog is. A lot of dog owners find that crates are helpful when they are trying to potty train their dogs.

You should also look into getting a puppy gate - even a baby gate will work. This will, of course, help dissuade your dog from going to rooms he is not supposed to go inside. They are also important because the dog can still see what is going on in the barred rooms.

Last but not least, a squirt bottle or a spray bottle can be a dog owner's best friend. This is a safe, harmless, and effective means to discipline your dog. A quick spray when he is trying to get into the trashcan or do his business in the house, and he will be sure to stop! - 20511
