Dog Behaviour Training - Some Easy Tips.

Dog Behaviour Training - Some Easy Tips.

by John Savage

Many puppy owners will tell you that if they could accomplish one thing in their life, it would be some high-quality dog behavior training!

Many of these owners are in near despair as they tell me that their puppy just seems to have a mind of his own.

But there is no need to despair, help is at hand. Believe it or not, training can be quite easy, if you know how to do it right, so stay with me.

So here is tip number 1. Reward, reward, reward.

Sounds simple, and it is. When you train you dog to do some sort of activity, and they get it right, then reward them with a treat. This is positive reinforcement, and it works.

As an example, if he makes a toilet mess in the house, do not rant and rave at him, but give him more time outside and when he does his business outside go overboard with the rewards.

This way he will associate going to the toilet in the right place, with his owners approval, something which all dogs love.

Tip #2 - This is all about one step at a time.

It's a common occurrence among new dog owners to completely overwhelm their dog with all the tricks they want them to perform. It's something like playing with a new toy - you just want to go through all the features and options right away.

Don't try and make your dog run before he can walk, in other words, just take things nice and slowly at first, and learn one thing at a time.

The first thing that I suggest is that you teach him/her to sit, and keep practising this for a couple of weeks.

And don't move on to the next command until this one is mastered, even if it takes 3 or 4 weeks for it to sink in.

Remember, dog behavior training can be a bit overwhelming for the dogs and the owners so trying to accomplish everything at once is just going to be too much for the dog and for you. So slow down and be patient, with the dog and with yourself.

Tip #3 - Have fun!

And it can be fun. But if you let it get on top of you, so that you start to dislike doing it, then its time to stand back and re-think.

And please do be patient with your dog because, yes there are times when dog behaviour training can become frustrating, but try not to let your frustration spill over on to your dog.

And if you ever find yourself losing patience with your dog then that is a strong signal to stop what you are doing, and do something else, like go for a long walk out in the country. - 20511
