To bite is only taught when a proxy but cooperating ?stranger? has protective clothing on, and I think the average car and dog owner will be satisfied with a barking dog in a car. Training to bite is a risky undertaking, but can be helpful if you live in a dangerous area.

The training of guard dogs is best done by a specialist. The ordinary dog owner should be wary of training his dog to do more than bark fiercely and agitatedly.

Train your dog to retrieve an object. Retrieving an object is another great skill to put in your dog?s bag of tricks. I think most dog owners should teach their dogs this trick.

Yorkshire terriers, who are territorial by nature, will guard your home with ease. You will find that most yorkie dogs come equipped at birth to guard your home.

Don't push the dumb-bell or other object back into the dog's mouth. Instead balance it behind the canine teeth, and allow the dog to close its mouth on it.

Some dogs bring objects back to their owners the first time that retrieval training is initiated. When taught how to retrieve, these dogs get bored quickly and who have to start all over again later.

Teach your dogs the right way from the beginning and ignore their natural desire to retrieve. Soon this will diminish if properly directed.

Dogs are so much happier when they know what their owner expects. Yorkies especially are so happy if they know the rules and how to please an owner. Yorkies love to follow rules, especially if learning and/or enforcing the rules is turned into a game. - 20511
