The Pros of Cat and Dog Furniture

The Pros of Cat and Dog Furniture

by Bella Holly

Owning a pet can be both a great pleasure and a great responsibility. This is particularly true when it comes to pet furniture (specifically pet stairs). Whether your pet is a cat or dog or even another type of animal, they often come into your life to fill a void or need. Sometimes over just a short period of time, they grow into your heart and truly become one of the family.

Making sure that our pets have everything they need is generally a pretty easy job. The main concerns of food, water, and shelter are taken care of, but sometimes pets require more. With our busy schedules and various things that come up, it can be easy to overlook pet furniture, which is normally seen as a frivolous display of pet pampering. Granted that some pet accessories are a bit over-the-top, but there are some items which can be important to your pet's safety.

One item that you don't have to contemplate is pet stairs. If you have a very small cat or dog, pet stairs are a must. This valuable mobility assistant provides your pet with the confidence to move from one height to another and allows you to be sure that they will not fall and injure themselves. Even large dogs benefit from pet stairs as they are less likely to develop bone or joint problems late in life if you take away the impact of jumping to and from furniture.

Pet beds are another good item to have for your pet. Not only does it give your pet a "retreat" to seek whenever he wants to be left alone, but it also give him an alternative to sleeping on a cold floor (for those of us who don't allow pets on the furniture). If you put the bed in an easily accessible place, it will not only encourage your pet to sleep on his own "turf," but it will also help develop a sleeping pattern.

A pet carrier is the final piece of furniture we're going to mention. Carriers are usually associated with small dogs, but you can in fact find large carriers (although they are more like crates, going by the size!). A pet carrier is an excellent way to practice safety when taking your pet on a trip. Not only does this give your animal a barrier in case of an accident, but it also gives him a familiar, tight space that he can feel more secure in.

You can easily find (http://www.luckypetfurniture.com/petsteps1.html) pet steps, (http://www.luckypetfurniture.com/catdogstep.html) cat litter furniture, and other pet furniture items by doing a quick search online. The Internet provides a great variety of online retailers who offer a variety of colors and styles to choose from at a much cheaper cost that most local retail stores. - 20511

Dog Illness Diagnosis

Dog Illness Diagnosis

by Moses Wright

Numerous symptoms can be caused by dog illnesses. A dog owner may attempt to diagnose the dogs condition based on a symptom. However, the symptoms can be misleading as many symptoms can be caused by different dog illnesses.

Behavior changes are often misinterpreted by dog owners. A dog can show signs of dog illness or injury by its behavior. A dog owner may not notice mild changes in behavior or changes may be attributed to normal aging or mood when it could have an abnormal physical cause.

This is why changes in behavior should be reason for the dog to be examined by a veterinarian. Dog illness diagnosis requires thorough veterinary knowledge of dogs and the ability to run tests to determine the cause of the dogs symptoms.

A dog owner may be able to identify a dog illness that can cause those physical symptoms or behavioral changes, but that illness may not be the true cause for those changes in the dog. A veterinarian can perform diagnostic tests for a proper dog illness diagnosis.

The dog owner is not an unnecessary part of dog illness diagnosis. Dog owners play a crucial role in helping the veterinarian diagnose a dog illness. Dog owners can report the symptoms and describe any noticeable changes in the dogs behavior.

After receiving information from the dog owner, the veterinarian can do a physical exam and run any tests for diagnosing the dogs illness. The veterinarian may perform several tests to rule out conditions that can cause the same symptoms.

Other diagnostic tests may be performs. The veterinarian may check the dogs feces or urine. X-rays may be used for a variety of symptoms and dog illnesses.

Once a proper diagnosis has been achieved, the veterinarian may discuss the illness and treatment options with the dog owner. The dog owner should be able to ask questions to the veterinarian about the illness and treatment. - 20511

Housebreaking: Advice To Ease The Process

Housebreaking: Advice To Ease The Process

by Bella Holly

Housebreaking a dog or puppy is often the most stressful aspect of owning a pet. However, the process can be less challenging if you have a few tips to help you out. This article will give you pointers on (http://www.luckycatfurniture.com/) dog potty training based around the concept of accident prevention rather than punishment.

Puppies are a lot like children in that their minds are like sponges, which is why most people begin obedience and potty training when during puppyhood. The main thing which you must understand before beginning the training process is that a puppy does have limited control of his bladder, so it is best if you admit to yourself that accidents will happen, and come to terms with the idea. A good thing you can do for your puppy is to buy him a crate or similar place that will be his own "personal" space. That way, if you're unable to watch him for a time, the accident will be in the crate and not somewhere around the house where you may not notice for a while.

One of the best things you can do for your puppy (and your sanity!) is to develop a regular routine as soon as you can. Try to feed him, take him outside, and put him down for bed around the same time every day. This will get his "body clock" set to the routine and he will eventually learn to rely upon this, as long as you follow through on your part and keep the routine as constant as possible, at least until your pup gets a bit older and develops more bladder control and adaptability.

When an accident does occur, don't get upset or hit your dog. If you didn't catch him in the act, simply put him in his crate while you clean up the mess. There is no point in trying to punish him, as he will not know why he is in trouble. If you do catch him in the act, giving him a firm 'No!' will let him know you are upset. Immediately take him to the proper spot outside and praise him if he goes again.

Though it requires dedication and patience on your part, training your dog by keeping to a routine to avoid messes in the first place is much more effective than trying to teach him through punishment. Now that you have succeeded in dog potty training, you can move on to teaching him to bring you the remote! Or for the little or arthritic dog, train him to use (http://luckycatfurniture.com/petsteps.html) dog stairs! Even if your dog is perfectly healthy, pet steps can greatly reduce the amount of impact your dog's joints receive. - 20511

The Benefits of Using Pet Steps

The Benefits of Using Pet Steps

by Bella Holly

Any great pet owner understands the importance of preserving your pet's health. This is particularly true to dogs, who can so easily develop an array of conditions. Did you know that a simple set of pet stairs can drastically reduce the chance of your dog developing a joint or bone problem such as arthritis or hip dysplasia?

If your dog regularly jumps onto and off of furniture (even if it isn't very far off the ground), his ankles, knees, hips, and spine are absorbing the shock that occurs when he lands. Using pet steps will keep him from having to exert any unnecessary pressure onto his body.

Deciding where the steps will be used most is an important factor to keep in mind when you're picking out a set of steps. For instance, if you need (http://www.helpyourpets.com/petsteps.html) dog steps for beds, you will need to know the distance from the floor to the top of the mattress. This way, your dog will not trip himself while trying to reach the bed if the steps are too short or tall. Some pet steps are designed with built-in compartments which are great for storing toys and treats.

A very important factor to keep in mind when choosing steps is how wide the steps should be in relation to the size and weight of your dog. A dog weighing less than 20 pounds should use (http://www.helpyourpets.com/petsteps.html) small dog steps that are 12 inches wide. If your dog is over 30 pounds, he will need large dog steps measuring about 16 inches wide. Medium-sized dogs, between 20 and 30 pounds should do well with steps that are 14 inches in width.

There are several different materials you can choose from, as well. The most common finish being carpeted, as it enables your dog to get a good grip as he ascends and descends the steps. You can also get wooden stairs in various shades, and even molding! - 20511

Stop Barking Collars

Stop Barking Collars

by Hannah Scott

If you are worried about your dog causing problems with your neighbors, then you are probably aware that your dog is barking excessively. There is a good chance that if your neighbors complained enough you could get a visit from animal control, and if its often then you could have your dog removed from you.

Finding out why your dog is barking is the best way to stop dog from barking once and for all. Excitement, boredom, anxiety and stranger alert are some of the reasons your dog might be barking excessively. Usually if there is things in their environment that is bothering them, and until you figure out what it is, they will continue to bark.

If your dog is neurotic then an anti barking collar is not the best way to stop your dog from barking. The shock from the collar can really send a neurotic dog into a spin and he or she could really hurt themselves trying to get the collar off. Stop barking collars are designed to be a corrective device, when your dog is barking. Once your dog has stopped barking the collar does need to come off, they are not designed for everyday apparel.

The main two types of anti barking collars are a static collar and a citronella collar. A static collar has a little box attached to the collar that sends out an unpleasant vibration to your dog when your dog is barking. Its not a electrical shock, so it will not send your dog off whimpering into the corner. The citronella collar sprays citronella when activated by the barking dog. The dog does not like the smell and it will start to realise that when he barks, it releases the smell.

Anti barking collars are not as cruel as you would think. They are not electric by any means and the shock that is being sent off to the dog is a vibration that will not send your dog off whimpering into the corner in pain. If you use a stop barking collar correctly then its a really great way to stop dog from barking, and start to restore peace in your neighbourhood again. - 20511

A Look Into The Variations between United States Born Rottweiler Pups and German Rottweiler Puppies For Sale By Rottweiler Dog Breeders

A Look Into The Variations between United States Born Rottweiler Pups and German Rottweiler Puppies For Sale By Rottweiler Dog Breeders

by Silvia Pratt

German Rottweiler puppies are conceived in Germany and American Rottweiler puppies are birthed in the US. It seems too simple; but really, the Rottweiler pup's place of birth is the most major distinction between the two variations of Rottweiler dogs. Of course, there are other differences that can be used to described each Rottweiler canine type.

Many Breeders Of Rottweiler canine families will tell you that there are several differences between Rottweiler pups Born In America and German Rottweiler Puppies For Sale like the body size, head size, bone and temperament of the Rottweiler dogs. The most important distinguishing factor is that any German Rottweiler pup after June 1998 has a tail. Other than the tail, the Rottweiler breed distinguishing factors between German Rottweiler Puppies For Sale and American Rottweiler Pups are fairly similar.

So what is the source of the information that German Rottweiler Puppies For Sale differ from American Rottweiler Pups? The misinformation lies in the bad breeding procedures which do not pay attention to Rottweiler breed type uniformity, no planning, and low regard to the Rottweiler breed. Resulting in the proliferation of non-standard Rottweiler breed details like the varying sized heads, long bodies, and thin bones.

The German standard (FCI/ADRK) as specified by the organization is as follows: Shoulder height for male Rottweiler dogs is 61 - 68 cm (24.01 - 26.77 inches) with 65 - 66 cm (25.59 - 25.98 inches) being the correct height of a Rottweiler dog. Shoulder height for females is 56 - 63 cm (22.04 - 24.8 inches) with 60 - 61 cm (23.62 - 24.01 inches) being the correct height.

So, what is the best way to get a Rottweiler puppy that is similar to the German standard as possible? Primarily, researching the lineages of the Rottweiler puppy's Sire and Dam. Then, is to find out whether the stud dog and brood dog are a good match for each other. Finally, you can work with the Rottweiler breeder to think of what improvements can be envisioned in the new litter and what nonconventional features will possibly surface.

Although whether the dog is German Rottweiler or an American Rottweiler getting a standard Rottweiler canine is always a balance of dna, pedigree, breed information, and previous matching data. The Distinguishing Factors between United States Born Rottweiler Pups and German Rottweiler Puppies For Sale By Rottweiler Dog Breeders are the breeder's programs for breeding. The best breeders to look for are those who try to breed for all of the qualities of a Rottweiler dog as outlined in this article.

Whatever Rottweiler you choose, make sure to request to inspect certificates of certification and look them over before you purchase or adopt any dog from a Rottweiler breeder. Moreover, take into consideration the breeder's reputation and record of business as a breeder of Rottweilers. And again, remember, real variation is that German Rottweiler puppies are birthed in Germany and American Rottweiler puppies are birthed in the The States. - 20511

Advice For Selecting Pet Steps,How To: Choose The Right Stairs For Your Pet

Advice For Selecting Pet Steps,How To: Choose The Right Stairs For Your Pet

by Bella Holly

Decorative pet stairs are an incredibly useful piece of pet aid furniture. They are particularly wonderful for smaller or elderly pets, however they can be a great benefit to pets of all sizes. As pets jump onto and off of a bed, sofa, or other piece of furniture, the impact it exerts onto their joints can cause severe problems later in life. Pet steps are a great preventative for that!

Naturally, the more decorative or durable style of pet steps will be priced a bit higher than those made for pure functionality. There are high-end doggy stairs available, for example, made of cherry wood with a carpeted stair surface and accented with moldings. Other models available are even made of mahogany and contain storage areas under the stair surfaces, as well as large and (http://decorativepetsteps.com/choosing-a-style-for-your-pet-stairs/) small pet stairs. These models are usually priced around $34.99. Most pet steps range from $30 to about $70.

You can find pet steps that are permanent structures, and others which are retractable, enabling them to be stored under the bed or stashed away in the closet. If you have a heavier or larger dog, it would probably be best to stick with a more solid set of pet steps, as the collapsible models are often limited to certain weight restrictions.

Pet stairs also vary depending upon the amount of steps they consist of. Some models have two steps, some three, and some have up to even six steps. Pet steps also vary with regards to the amount of weight they are able to support. Solid wood construction would support more weight than pet steps made of a plastic frame, of course. Some pet steps offer more surface area on the stairs for larger animals. A few models are also made for use with an automobile. You may also find designs of (http://decorativepetsteps.com/bed-side-pet-steps/) pet steps for bed climbing assistance.

The range of color available is extreme; some companies are even able to do color-match services. However, most models and choices are neutral colors. Decorative pet steps come in many shapes and sizes. Find one that is right for you and your furry friend. - 20511

Caring For Boston Terrier Puppies

Caring For Boston Terrier Puppies

by Abhik Sarkar

Many people, who have not met Boston Terrier puppies have no idea what their missing, bundles of curious and humorous energy, that's focused on entertaining you, and loving you.

The AKC breed of Boston Terriers is a very inquisitive and intelligent little dog, belonging to the non sporting group, they weigh between 10 and 25lbs, and usually stand between 15 inches and 17 inches. While this is the breed standard you'll also find them above and below the standard. They are often looking to entertain in a gentle way and often are referred to as "the American Gentleman"

While many toy breeds are rather fragile and petite, this sturdy little dog is known to be very good family members for families with teenagers and preteens. They love to be in the center of family gatherings and want to please at all times, this means a tone of voice is enough and any heavy hands should be avoided.

They are easily cared for with a partial coat of short length, minimal bathing and a bit of brushing will keep their coat glossy and smooth.

Boston Terrier puppies are just about like any other pup, curious, inquisitive and wanting to do the right thing, so training is a breeze if attention is paid to the small details.

The biggest thing to remember is that a Boston Terrier puppy is still a baby, and like other babies, a sudden change in diet, too much stress or activity can not only make them exhausted, but also has the potential to make them physically ill. Due to their small size it's important that frequent feedings, as well as frequent naps are offered on a regular basis, their tiny bodies cannot go all day without eating or drinking.

Crate training is suggested for not just potty training but also to give your puppy a safe and comfortable place to nap or decompress from a busy afternoon playing.

You'll need to make judgment calls with your puppy just as you would any other baby, and if they do not head for their crate on their own to nap, you may want to enforce rest, also, keep water close to the crate, and your pup won't have problems with dehydration.

If you have not already acquainted your puppy with your local veterinarian, there is no time to waste. Your Vet will recommend a vaccination schedule and you'll also want to find out what type of pet insurance you Vet accepts. It's important that you follow through on your Vet's vaccination schedule as your Boston's immunity system will not be in full swing until your pup is over 4 months of age. This means that even if your pup received one vaccination, they may not be immune and can get sick.

While Boston Terrier puppies will do very well in a home with older individuals, they may not do as well, with families with very young children. They have a very inquisitive nature and seem to find trouble just about anywhere, this means that you need to provide a very safe place for your Boston when your not home, and keep an eye on them when you are.

The Boston Terrier is a great breed of small dog, and will suit in many situations, follow your Vet's schedule, check on the available pet health insurance they take, and always make sure your Boston pup has a safe place to spend their time when you're not around, such as a puppy pen or a crate. - 20511

(http://www.bostonterrierinfo.com/boston-terrier-training/) Training your Boston Terrier does not have to be hard when you follow the proven methods this breed responds to. Having a well behaved dog is as easy.

Cat Furniture Could Save Your Sanity (And Your Nose!)

Cat Furniture Could Save Your Sanity (And Your Nose!)

by Bella Holly

If you are like most people, you hate having a litter box in your house. They have a nasty smell that stinks up your house and are often in plain view. Does that sound familiar? If so, why not think about hiding your cat's litter tray with unique (http://luckycatfurniture.com/catfurniture.html) cat litter furniture?

A great way to hide your litter box and provide your cat with his own private area is an all-in-one kitty care center. At the lowest level is a box with a slide out door to put your litter tray in. There is a small hole in the side for your cat to gain entry. The next level is a feeding area where you can keep your cat's food elevated away from dogs or children. There is a play center in the middle and two sleeping platforms at the top. Also, there are multiple scratching posts in the formation. This is a great way to offer your cat everything he needs and help eliminate some of those cat box odors.

You may also find a piece of cat furniture known as a "bookcase climber," which is a large piece of furniture with "step-like" segments that lead to hidden cubby-holes, sleeping areas, and play stations. While these can be great if you have quite a lot of room to spare, it can be overbearing if you don't have a lot of room. If you don't have a lot of space for kitty accommodation, you can look in to pet stairs, which come in a variety of sizes, colors, and styles. Some come with built-in compartments that are just wonderful for storage. You can find them in high-end fashionable wood, accentuated with molding, or standard carpeting.

A litter robot is something you may or may not have heard of before. It's a practical solution to the burden of cat littler. It's a ball-shaped, self-cleaning litter component. The litter is placed on the inside of the dome where a small entry hole leads to. Your cat has privacy while doing his business, and then the litter robot simply sifts through the soiled litter and deposits the waste into a plastic bag, which you can remove and dispose of at your leisure. It's a very resourceful machine that can easily hide the musky litter-box smell and makes litter-box management much easier for the faint-of-heart.

Cat furniture is probably sounding more and more up your alley! You can find any of the previously mentioned cat furniture items online, and some may be available at a pet store near you. Those of you with dogs mustn't forget them, either! You can find a huge assortment of dog stairs online. You can have your (http://luckycatfurniture.com/petsteps.html) dog steps custom-built or simply purchase a pre-built model, which come in many colors and finish, including luxury wood or carpet, and even some with accenting molding! - 20511

The different styles and uses of (http://luckycatfurniture.com) pet furniture are vast, so have a look around online; you're sure to find something to suit your and your pet's needs!

The Pros And Cons Of Crate Training

The Pros And Cons Of Crate Training

by Daniel Varena

Not everybody agrees on the benefits of crate training.

With crate training the dog is put in a cage, usually made out of plastic or metal that?s about the size of your dog, for shorter periods of time over the day.

Proponents argue that crating gives the dog a sense of 'property', a place for himself. In this little home within the home, the dog feels safe surrounded by familiar smells and objects. Here, the dog can take a break from the new and sometimes ?strange? outside world.

Those who favor crate training say that potty training is much easier when combined with use of a crate. Dogs, they state, will naturally avoid to evacuate, and wait until they're released to go outside.

On the other hand, opponents argue that locking your dog into a cage with just enough space to turn around undermines his nature to explore. The dog can?t wander around and isn?t stimulated by new experiences.

They will also state that too many animals will be too long in their crates, which in the end means that the whole idea of potty training won?t work. They give the typical example of pet shops where you can see how sometimes puppies are playing in their own pooh.

No doubt both sides have some good and some bad points. Objective studies on the issue are scarce and equally divided. Provided certain 'rules' are respected, there's probably no harm, and possibly some good, in crate training.

Even proponents recognize that excessive time in a crate is bad for the dog. Any dog locked up in a small space is not getting the exercise he needs and may be restrained from evacuating for longer than is healthy. So I recommend to keep the crate time to no more than two hours maximum.

Opponents worry that dogs in their crate can harm themselves when they make attempts to open the crate to escape, or because they?re bored. Always use a safe crate, one that?s designed especially for dogs. The crate should be sturdy enough, so it can resist your dogs? attempts to get out. And above all make sure the crate can?t fall over.

Advocates believe that once your dog is crate trained, car, train and plain travel is much easier, because he is used to the crate. They feel at home in the crate, especially if you give him something that smells familiar. This is especially interesting for owners that travel regularly with their dog.

People against crate training simply say that you shouldn't travel with your dog, besides the trips around the neighborhood, because a dog feels at home on its own turf.

But after all you should decide. You might want to give crate training a try and see for yourself. You?ll be the judge and decide if this is for your dog or not. - 20511

Pet Stairs: The Safest Option For Your Pet

Pet Stairs: The Safest Option For Your Pet

by Bella Holly

Many of us don't mind snoozing with our pet snuggled on our bed next to us. In fact, it can be a huge comfort to have your guard dog curled up at your feet while you rest. But have you ever wondered about the toll that jumping up and down from the bed must have on your dog's joints? (http://www.helpyourpets.com/petsteps.html) Dog steps for beds are the perfect solution to keep your dog from hurting himself.

Smaller breeds of dog are particularly in need of dog steps as it is not uncommon for a small dog to break or fracture his leg by jumping off a tall bed or couch. Older dogs or large dogs with a hip or arthritis condition would definitely benefit from a dog stairs as there would be no severe impact to the joints.

However, choosing (http://www.helpyourpets.com/petsteps.html) dog stairs is different from choosing other types of pet furniture, as many people prefer both practicality and pleasant appearance in their steps.

First, you probably want to consider how well dog steps will match the decor of your bedroom.. Unlike dog steps for vehicles, for instance, it's unlikely that you're going to be moving your dog's bed steps. That means you can choose steps in more stable styles and materials, such as a wood that complements your bedroom suite. Some dog steps for beds have compartments in the treads, so you can keep your dog's favorite toys or blankets close by.

Next, dog steps for beds are built higher than other dog steps because beds are typically higher. Pet steps intended to reach beds can measure from 17 to 29 inches, depending on your type of pet. Remember that the smaller your pet is, the higher the steps have to be for them to reach your mattress.

Aside from these factors, choosing dog steps for beds is the same as selecting steps for other purposes. You'll need to know your dog's size in order to choose the right kind of bed steps for it in width, height and the steps' ability to hold the dog's weight. These qualities are typically explained on the product label. - 20511

Terriers: A Perfect Addition To Your Family

Terriers: A Perfect Addition To Your Family

by Bella Holly

As long as you are willing to learn a bit about the needs of terrier dogs, caring for one can be fairly simple. The terrier is an energetic type of class of breed that needs a lot of attention. The attention you need to give them as their owner is very important. If you plan on (http://petterriers.com/category/breeding-terrier-puppies/) breeding terriers, it is first recommended that you speak to your veterinarian and get your terrier inspected to make sure that he/she is suitable for reproduction. In the article below, you will find out more about the caring for your terrier.

Understanding your dog's needs is the first step to becoming a good pet owner. The behavior, as well as the grooming requirements of a terrier varies depending upon which type you get, as some may have more exercise requirements, thicker coats, etc. For instance, (http://petterriers.com/yorkshire-terrier-care/) Yorkshire terrier training may be more difficult than other terriers as they are notoriously hard to housebreak. Doing a bit of research on the personality and physical requirements of different terrier breeds is the best way to help you decide which is right for you.

The food needs to be the best nutrients in order for your friend to get the right growth they require. To find the right type of foods you should check out many different food brands. You shouldn't change the dogs food, because it can mess up their stomach.

One of the very first things you should do if you get your terrier as a puppy, is to get his vaccinations administered as soon as he is old enough. This is ideally done between 9 - 18 weeks of age. The older the puppy becomes, the more likely his body is to develop an immunity. After your puppy has had the initial injections and booster, you should generally follow up with a yearly booster shot and check up.

Caring for a terrier will be like any other dog, but they will be a bit more energetic and need play time. Playing with them everyday will help them grow on you and listen a lot better, resulting in a calm pet you need. There are many places in which you can obtain your terrier, including pet shops, breeders, and even the classified ads section of your newspaper. You can also do an Internet search, such as "Westie puppies for sale" which will display the sites of many breeders or rescue organizations in which you can contact. - 20511

Choosing Pet Steps For Your Dog

Choosing Pet Steps For Your Dog

by Bella Holly

Have a new dog in the house is a pleasure and a responsibility. No matter what age the dog is, when they first come to your home, there is a certain degree of training that is necessary to get them acclimated to their new surroundings. A younger dog or puppy will undoubtedly need dog training with emphasis on training with (http://www.helpyourpets.com/petsteps.html) dog steps.

Small dogs are especially in need of small dog steps, as they can sustain a serious injury from falling or jumping off of tall furniture. Breeds such as Chihuahuas and Pomeranians have fragile bones and can easily break their legs jumping from a bed or sofa. Picking them up to place them on furniture can not only be a nuisance, but it can cause them spinal problems in the future.

Large and (http://www.helpyourpets.com/petsteps.html) small dog steps are readily available at many retailers and are a worthwhile investment in your dog's safety. There are many studies that show that small dogs are at the highest risk of breaking a limb if they fall off of a couch or bed and land improperly.

Many dogs are very smart and will only need to be shown a time or two how to ascend the stairs and then how to climb back down. Make sure that the steps are stationed where your dog will not climb to the top and fall off, i.e., not near a corner of the bed or armless sofa.

Keep the pet stairs free from objects that may cause the dog to trip such as toys and treats. Don't rush your puppy or dog to climb down right away if they hesitate. Let them get comfortable with using the steps and before you know it, their training will be complete.

Be sure to shop for steps that are the right height for your dog. Some of the best dog steps have adjustable heights on the steps that allow for growing puppies. - 20511

We recommend you begin your search for (http://www.helpyourpets.com) pet steps online, as many online retailers are offering a large variety of steps at competitive prices.

Preventing Common Dog Illnesses

Preventing Common Dog Illnesses

by Moses Wright

Many common dog illnesses can be prevented. Some common dog illnesses are prevented by vaccinations that dogs normally receive. Other common dog illnesses can be prevented by the dog owners vigilance.

Not all common dog illnesses are preventable. Getting a dog vaccinated can prevent some dog illnesses that are serious and potentially fatal. Vaccines for rabies and parvovirus are examples of ways to prevent potentially fatal dog illnesses.

The viral infection known as rabies is contracted through a bite from an infected animal. Rabies is one of the few dog diseases that can infect humans. Rabies in dogs has become much less common since dogs are routinely vaccinated for this disease.

Parvovirus is another viral infection that can be prevented with dog vaccinations. Parvovirus causes severe gastrointestinal symptoms including bloody diarrhea. Young puppies with the parvovirus can experience sudden death is the viral infection attacks the heart.

A common reason for taking a dog to the veterinarian is diarrhea. Diarrhea can be caused by viral infections or ingesting dangerous substances or rotten food. A dog owner should keep garbage secured from a dogs access to help prevent diarrhea.

Vomiting is another common cause for a veterinary appointment. Vomiting can be caused by the same things that can cause diarrhea in dogs. If the dog has both vomiting and diarrhea, has blood in either one, or if either persists for more than a day, the dog owner should contact the veterinarian immediately.

Dirt and debris in the dogs ears can increase the dogs risk of ear infections. Ear infections are another common cause of needing veterinary care. The presence of ear mites increases the dogs risk for ear infections, therefore any ear mites should be treated promptly.

Periodontal disease is one of the most common dog diseases that can be prevented. Many dog owners neglect their dogs oral health. If a dog owner does not brush the dogs teeth daily and take the dog to the veterinarian for regular cleanings, tartar builds up on the dogs teeth and causes infections. - 20511

American Eskimo Dog: The All White and All American Dog Breed

American Eskimo Dog: The All White and All American Dog Breed

by Alfred Mason

Also called as Eskie, the American Eskimo Dog is a breed of Spitz type and that has been developed in the United States. It came from the Nordic line of dog breeds and is often utilized as a sled dog, doing tasks such as pulling heavy luggage across snow and ice. This breed is often mistaken for a German Spitz, and although they share the same ancestors, they have been developed separately for over 100 years now.

There are three varieties of the American Eskimo Dog or Eskie and these are the Toy, Miniature and Standard varieties. The heights of these dogs are as follows: toy- 9 to 12 inches, miniature- 12 to 15 inches, and standard- 15 to 19 inches. An Eskie that falls below or exceeds above the 9 inches to 19 inches limit is considered as a disqualification by the breed standard.

Describing the body of the Eskie, it would be compactly built and slightly longer than it is tall. Its body is also covered with a double coat that is water and cold resistant. It has ears that are small, erect and cold resistant; and its coat is ruffled around the neck creating a lion-look.

The rump and back legs of this breed are also draped with lush double coat including its tail, which looks feathery and falls freely on its back. White and white with biscuit cream are the standard colors for the Eskie. In grooming this breed, you will need to brush or comb its coat twice weekly except during its bi-annual shedding when it will need a more frequent grooming.

In the United States and Canada, the Eskie is popular as a house pet and family companion. This dog is very protective and loyal to its master and it strives to be a part of the family. Moreover, not only does it make a good part of the family but as an excellent watchdog as well since the Eskie barks as a signal that a stranger is approaching.

This breed is highly intelligent, biddable, very energetic, moderately free-spirited and very eager to please. As early as possible, it is best for the Eskie to be trained in socialization in order to avoid shyness or misbehaviors in adulthood. Participation in dog shows such as agility and flyball competitions will take care of its socialization issue.

Because this dog is highly energetic, it means that it has excessive energy that needs to be utilized in order to keep him healthy mentally and physically. He must be brought out for daily exercise and the intensity should depend on its size. Although active and protective, the Eskie, won't attack or bite on impulse unless it is being provoked.

The modern Eskie developed from breeds such as the large German Spitz, Italian Spitz, Volpino Italiano and many more. These precursor breeds first arrived in the United States during the early 1900s as brought by immigrants from Europe. The Eskie's first recognition as the American Eskimo Dog happened in 1919 under the American United Kennel Club and it was in 1995 that the breed was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club. - 20511

Aggresion In Dogs - Dog Teaching

Aggresion In Dogs - Dog Teaching

by Jeff Watersman

Many pet owners had this frequently seen problem for years together ; fighting the aggression in dogs and keeping it under control. If you understand the concept as to what causes dogs to be aggressive and how to manipulate it, then the possibilities of not being a victim of dog aggression is high. It is astounding that dog bites cost the healthcare industry $30 million annually.

First, you must understand the factors behind aggression in dogs. Not all dogs are born aggressive, they usually become like that because of the conditions around them. When a puppy is of a very young age, like say between one to fourteen weeks, they need to socialise thoroughly and looked after by relations.

Aggression in dogs usually begins from a young age due to unacceptable care. If the puppies aren't socialized with humans from a young age, they'll grow up shy around others and also will be alarmed of them. This is maybe the beginning of aggression in dogs. If left unbridled, it may be a difficulty later on. There are also factors that cause aggression in dogs. This could be hormonal or genetic background. The commonest breeds like Doberman and rotty are consider having the most aggression in dogs. These breeds are of a protecting nature which explains the high aggression in dogs that belong to these breeds.

Hormonal imbalances are due to inbreeding by some scrupulous dog breeders. They don't take excellent care of the dogs and in an effort to make a quick buck, resort to inbreeding. In addition to causing high levels of aggression in dogs, this is also unhealthy and can have serious physical effects on the dog too.

The environment the dog is being raised in is also a serious contributor to aggression in dogs. If the dog is being punished unnecessarily, or being showered attention for no reason, or is the topic of teasing by passersby and youngsters, then these are all responsible for higher degrees of aggression in dogs.

Similarly, aggression may also be classified into different types primarily based on the dog's demeanor. The defensive aggression in dogs is when the dog is awfully afraid of the person or animal and attacks in retaliation. This is one of the most typical forms of aggression.

The territorial aggression is the form of aggression where people or animals outside the known circle approach the dog's area and make it feel threatened. On the other hand, agony prompted aggression, as the name says, is when the dog is attacking something that causes it pain like other animals or people. There's a possibility that a combination of aggression in dogs can exist and thus, it is safe to narrow down the causes before jumping the van.

Sadly, a big number of pet owners mistake aggression in dogs to be an unexplained behaviour change. They fail to realize what caused the dog to behave the manner it probably did and hastily send it away to animal shelters. If you take the time and understand, then it is possible that there are a few things your beloved pet may be trying to say. - 20511

Best Puppy Training Secrets

Best Puppy Training Secrets

by Miyagii Moto

History has shown that most people prefer owning a dog than any other animal as a pet. This is due to the fact that they have proven themselves to be efficient, intellectual and trainable. Dogs have the uncanny ability to be loyal to their masters but wary of strangers. These qualities make them a perfect buddy for those who are living alone as well as to couples who are just beginning to start their own families. No matter what is the age of the person, he can still benefit from the presence of a dog.

It has been said that a dog's behavior only reflect his breeding and training. Obviously, there is nothing that you can do anymore to change his breeding. However, there is still a lot you can do with his training. You can still teach new tricks. Now, if you are thinking of getting another puppy as a pet, here are some of the best-kept secrets of puppy training that you should bear in mind.

The first thing that you have to do is to make your pet feel secure in your company. Spend some quality time by playing with him after you have gotten home from your office. This process will ensure that you have established a good rapport. It's a no-no to start implementing difficult tricks that would boggle his mind because it will not lead to any learning. After making your pet comfortable, slowly impose discipline by taking away his comfortable lifestyle.

Tie him with a leash, put him inside a dog kennel or put him in a crate to demonstrate that you mean serious business. Initially, he might get a little raucous and yowl until the early hours of the morning. This is more evident especially if they have lived a very free lifestyle. Force yourself to play deaf to this kind of pain. Sooner than you can say "silence", they will realize that all their whimpering will have no effect on you. This will instill the fact that you are the chief and he is the mere subordinate who must follow orders. It won't be long before they get used to this situation and will look forward to your arrival.

Second, teach him a simple trick followed by a nice reward. The treat could come in the form of a chicken or pork meat. As exemplified by Ivan Pavlov, the famous Russian psychologist, this method will make the dog associate good behavior with food. This will be stored in their memory for a long time if done repetitively.

Third, you can go the opposite direction and make your dog realize the power of negative conditioning. This is done by imposing the words no, stop and don't in the training process. Use a powerful voice if possible. An example would be catching him rummaging through the garbage. So the moment you see him, say stop out loud and give him a slight slap on the tail area.

Fourth, you have to be unswerving in your reward or punishment. When you either of the two, make sure that it is appropriate to the excellent job or the awful deed. Variety should be avoided at all cost or else your dog will develop some kind of a crisis. The same premise applies to all the people in your household.

Lastly, give plenty of alternatives. If there are chores that your dog can't easily do as told, like not peeing on the plant, then provide another option like giving him a pee box. This will shift his attention and result to a more favorable attitude. Don't be such a strict disciplinarian all the time that you will take the fun out of this training exercise. Have fun with your pet dog. - 20511

Puppy Training Tips Your Dog Would Want You To Know

Puppy Training Tips Your Dog Would Want You To Know

by Geraldine Dimarco

Was there ever a time you just wanted to leave your work and get some quiet time by yourself? How about it your own boss required you to enjoy a vacation, even planning it himself? I don't know one person on earth who would say no to this. If you are one of them, be sure to leave your name and email address so resumes can be properly addressed.

It's the same with dogs. These animals need to feel secure and use lairs for this specific purpose. Unfortunately, they wouldn't know how to go about doing this in a domesticated setting. Being a responsible and caring pet owner should have us gently instilling in them practices that are good for their well-being. As this article goes on, you will find helpful puppy training tips on how to crate train your dogs properly and effectively.

At first I thought crate training a puppy must be this cruel method of torture inflicted on disobedient pups. Its not. Wouldn't you know-- it is actually a very helpful and friendly method of training dogs. Canines are not keen on sleeping in a place he already soiled. A crate trained puppy then would keep from eliminating until you let him out of his area; so release him to potty when he has spent sufficient time inside the crate. Make sure the said space is not big enough to have space between his sleeping and toilet area.

Put the enclosure in a room where people gather together. Do not rush the puppy into the whole process; it can be traumatic when done incorrectly. Place his favorite treats and things in and begin to feed him inside the crate. This is your puppy's special place and you want him to associate the crate with happy and pleasant things. Never use this as a form of punishment.

Now the puppy is already accustomed to being inside the crate, close the enclosure for a few minutes at a time. Make sure he hears you and knows you are still in the room. If he gets upset for no pressing reason, do not let him out until he quiets down. If you do, he will use crying to get what he wants in the future.

The next step is getting the puppy so comfortable inside the crate he won't mind being there alone. Keep his play things inside to occupy him. When you feel the time is right, leave the room for a short period of time and gradually increase it. If you need to leave the house, do not go away for more than four hours. Puppies have not fully developed their bodily functions as well as an adult dog.

Follow these puppy training tips and you will regain a certain freedom most pet owners have forgotten about. A disciplined dog brought up in this method will be easier to schedule for sleeping and potty breaks. Not only that, an actual vacation will be possible now that you can leave your puppy for longer periods of time inside his little nook. After crate training a puppy successfully, you will wonder how you ever managed otherwise. - 20511

Five Ingredients For An Improved Life With Your Dog - From Fetch to Nutrition to Frontline Flea Drops

Five Ingredients For An Improved Life With Your Dog - From Fetch to Nutrition to Frontline Flea Drops

by Jessie Wales

From quality time and exercise, to proper grooming, medical aid and proper treatments, like Frontline flea drugs, dogs have certain needs that you, as the owner will have to look after. Make the best of your relationship with your pet by committing the time and money he requires to make sure he lives a long and healthy life.

Have a look at the massive picture of what makes a dog content, and figure out tiny things you can do on a consistent basis to make certain the quality of his life is high and stays high throughout his years as an element of your family. Gain control. Dogs have easy wants you can meet with a little time and planning.

1. Good training / Communication - Dogs are social animals and they crave leadership and structure in the pack or family. Make sure you know the way to communicate with your dog to show him that you're the leader of the pack. He should willingly do what you assert every time. If not, it's time to sweep up with a dog training manual or dog training video which will train YOU to coach your pet.

2. Good Food / nutrition - As we learned some years back with the dog food shocks and deaths, we need to keep an eye on our dog's nourishment. Tragically and suddenly, my Aunt Patty lost her poodle Jazzbox to poisoning from tainted dog food. While it might not be practical for everyone to make their dog's food every day, it actually makes sense to find a type of food you can feel snug feeding your dog. Talk to your vet about ingredients and nourishment standards from the brands you are considering.

3. Love and friendship - Dogs are not play things that are content to be ignored like a bicycle in the garage or a Monopoly game in the closet - only to be taken out at your convenience. Dogs desire and need your attention. Try and plan your day so that you may have some time to spend with your dog before and after work. If the dog must be alone all day while the family is gone, think about another animal companion or a pet sitter / dog walker to look in on your pet and break up the monotony.

4. Tons of Exercise - Different breeds of dogs have varying levels of exercise needs. However, I will go out on a limb and say most breeds of dogs need a ton more exercise than they're getting on a regular basis. A rigorous exercise program can help curb behaviour Problems inside the house and make your dog ( and you ) more healthy. If you cannot muster the energy to entirely exercise your dog with a 5-mile run every day, look into toys and games which will supply a physical and mental challenge. A game of fetch, a play-date with another buddy's dog, a swim at a beach or lake - all of these can be effective forms of exercise. There also are a number of wonderful dog hobbies, like agility competitions, which can offer exercise, special time, and psychological challenge - what a great combination!

5. General medical care - although it's never any fun for us to think about going to the doctor, it is important to take our dog to the vet on a constant basis. The vet will confirm your pet is fully vaccinated, and check his teeth, coat, feet, eyes and ears to make sure he remains in good health. Nowadays, many vets also recommend a routine course of flea and tick treatment with a product like Frontline flea drugs. Dogs benefit from flea and tick sprays like Frontline flea medication, canine Advantix or Advantage for dogs, because these products reduce and eliminate uncomfortable itching due to bug infestations. Additionally, keeping fleas and ticks off your dog can help forestall the spread of these insects to you and your other pets and members of the family, as well as slow the growth of contagious and dangerous diseases like Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.

If you can't do a training session with your dog every day, or run him around the block, it's not the end of the world . However, it is important not to skip out on applications of Frontline flea medication, or whatever product you are using. Most such flea and tick sprays need to be applied monthly and won't be effective if you skip months

Our lives are made up of habits, and if we have pets, our habits should include making the time to meet their wishes on a regular basis. Recognizing your pet and meeting his physical and emotional needs does not have to be hard. It should be a satisfying part of pet ownership... Of course , isn't taking the chance to do plenty of these activities one of why you got a dog in the first place?

I regard myself as a writer, dog lover, and owner of http://www.Gifts-For-Dog-Lovers.com, a site with tons of great ideas for coaching your dog and taking care of her health. - 20511

It's probably important to you to know your dog is not suffering with flea and tick problems. You can use (http://www.gifts-for-dog-lovers.com/frontline-for-pets.html) Frontline For Pets or (http://www.gifts-for-dog-lovers.com/canine-advantix.html) Canine Advantix to quickly eliminate fleas and ticks.

Toy Yorkie - Warning About Important Information You Need To Know

Toy Yorkie - Warning About Important Information You Need To Know

by Louie Lindsay

The Yorkshire Terrier makes a wonderful companion for most people, as they are loyal, friendly and amusing to be around.

General Appearance and Description

Yorkies are popular with people who enjoy being able to take their dogs with them everywhere.

It's believed that the Yorkshire Terrier was originally a much bigger animal than the tiny dog that's so popular today. Likely there was a bit of selective breeding that went on and the dog gradually become smaller and smaller through the years. The first Yorkie who looked like the dog we know today was introduced at a dog show in 1870.

The Yorkie has a long, fine silky coat that is very straight and falls straight down from the spine on each side. Yorkie puppies are usually tan and black, while adult dogs are mostly steel blue on the tail and body and tan everywhere else.

Most owners who are not showing their Yorkies will keep the hair long and shaggy, but if the dog is shown, his hair will be clipped shorter and given more structure.

The hair on the top of the head gets very long, so most owners will pull it back into a distinctive ponytail on the top of the head, while others will clip the top hairs so they stay out of the dog's face.

Yorkshire Terrier breeders will tell you that there is no true Teacup Yorkshire Terrier. All Yorkshire Terriers are small and the teacup is not an official designation at all.

Basic Temperament

Yorkie dogs are entertaining for many reasons but one favorite character trait of many owners is the dog's obliviousness to his size. He thinks he's a bigger dog and will enjoy any adventure that a larger dog might enjoy.

Always energetic, the Yorkie is brave, extremely loyal to his owner and clever. He's intelligent and a willing companion on any adventure.

Because he's somewhat dismissive of his tiny size, the Yorkie will be willing to take on any challenge, and sees himself as a watchdog. He generally does a fine job of it, but his size ensures that he's not a terribly good match for whatever walks through the front door.

Like most little dogs, the Yorkie needs clear leadership. You must lead the Yorkie with a firm but gentle hand.

If you establish that you are the leader of the pack, the Yorkie will submit to that, but if you don't, he will exhibit troubling behavior problems like jealousy, aggression, barking, snapping and separation anxiety.

Care Required

All that fur means that some grooming is essential. The Yorkie's coat needs to be combed or brushed at least weekly. If you keep the long hair on the top of the head tied back, you should replace the elastic or ribbon weekly.

The Yorkie develops plaque easily on the teeth, so they need to be cleaned regularly.

Good for allergy sufferers, the Yorkie sheds little.

When looking at know more about Yorkie breeders, read and learn as much as you can because this is truly a incredible little dog.

Exercise Requirements

While he might not be able to walk too far, the Yorkie likes s a daily walk, as well as regular play (but you should never substitute play for the daily walk). If you don't give your dog a daily walk, he will be more likely to display behavior problems.

If you notice that your dog is running around the house in a bit of a crazy fashion, that's a sign that he needs more exercise than he's getting.

When you do take him out, be cautious of the conditions outside. Yorkshire Terriers are very sensitive to cold and prefer warm areas, as in warm climates, or simply being indoors on a cold day.

The Yorkie Dog is truly a very special dog.

Training

The Yorkie is easy to train, but he can be stubborn, so be sure to establish yourself as the pack leader and give him clear boundaries when you're training him. That will pay dividends when you try to train him.

Some Yorkie dogs can be hard to housetrain.

Height and Weight

The Yorkie will be about 6 to 7 inches tall and will weigh right around 7 pounds.

Health and Longevity

While most Yorkies live long lives, they do run the risk of several health problems.

Most Yorkies suffer poor digestion and the owner should avoid giving too many special treats. Yorkshire Terriers should be given dry food only, because they run the risk of serious tooth decay and dry food keeps their teeth strong and sharp.

Yorkie dogs can also run the risk of bronchitis; fragile bones can easily lead to fractures.

Most Yorkies will live to be approximately 12 to 15 years old.

Suitability

If you have an apartment, the Yorkie is an excellent choice. They enjoy being indoors and will find their activity inside happily.

Because the Yorkie considers himself a companion pet, he enjoys senior citizens and others who will be happy to take him on adventures. If possible, he should not be placed in a house with young children who might be a little too rough with him.

Yorkies can make surprisingly adequate watchdogs.

Housebreaking Without Rubbing His Nose In It

Housebreaking Without Rubbing His Nose In It

by Bella Holly

Puppyhood is the "formative" period for your dog. What you teach him during this time will most likely stick with him the rest of his life. One of the most important things to get started is to (http://www.helpyourpets.com/) train dogs to potty outside.

Developing a routine early on in your puppy's life is a sure way to ease the strain that the potty training process can entail. Try starting out by getting your pup used to a particular life routine. This includes working up a schedule of sleeping, eating, and potty time. Make sure that you keep the schedule constant, such as feeding him at a certain time every day and taking him outside 15 minutes after.

A good way to save your sanity is to admit right off the bat that your puppy will have accidents, and the sooner you understand this, the easier your (http://www.helpyourpets.com/) dog potty training will be. You can help ease accidents by keeping some newspaper in a dedicated spot so that your pup can at least familiarize himself with an acceptable alternative when he is unable to go outside. This works particularly well if you don't have a "doggy door" and your dog has to depend upon you to take him outside.

The sooner you get to know your puppy's "eat/potty" routine, the easier potty-training will become. The most easy rule to go by is to remember that by the time you've fed or watered your pup, he will be ready to potty roughly 15 - 20 minutes later. If you can, try to have your puppy outside at this time so he will familiarize himself with the proper "potty surroundings".

It is important that you are careful to separate "potty time" from "play time." As it is natural for puppies to want to explore, you should only encourage them at the appropriate times. Nothing is more frustrating than to be up at 2 am with your little guy running around the yard for twenty minutes, only to potty as soon as you get back inside.

Puppyhood is a great time to begin using the praise and discipline techniques you intend to use throughout your dog's life. Many people prefer the terms "good boy/girl" and "no," both of which can be still be said when your dog is older. Although puppies need a lot of firmness, repetition, and routine remember that your pup will soon grow up, so enjoy his young, eager activity while you can! - 20511

Considering A Mastiff Puppy? Look A These Tips!

Considering A Mastiff Puppy? Look A These Tips!

by Bella Holly

Raising a mastiff is much the same as caring for any other breed of dog. You should take care to begin training your mastiff puppy as soon as you can, as well as develop a good exercise routine. (http://petmastiff.com/caring-for-your-mastiff/) Mastiff training can be a bit difficult if you aren't persistent. Your mastiff will need a good diet and regular grooming to ensure he remains in good health. Be aware when taking in a mastiff that they have a tendency to want to lie around with very little desire to exercise. You will need to have a determined attitude toward exercising your mastiff.

It is recommended to walk your mastiff on a daily basis and approximately twice a day to maintain your mastiff's health and happiness. If you have a back yard then it is ok to walk your mastiff once a day as they can walk around the yard. But if you live in an apartment it is recommended to walk your dog at least twice a day so that they can get a regular exercise.

Mastiffs are big dogs and require a regular diet of quality dog food to maintain good health. (http://petmastiff.com/breeding-mastiff-puppies/) Mastiff puppies should be fed roughly four times a day after they've been weaned onto puppy food. As your mastiff grows, you can gradually reduce the amount of times you feed him to once or twice a day. There is usually a guideline somewhere on the dog food package that estimates how much you should feed your dog based off of a weight scale.

Grooming a mastiff is generally a very easy process, so you won't have to spend hours a week combing through fur. They are naturally shedders (watch out in the spring time!), so you don't have to work so hard when you brush them. They do have natural oils in their coat to help protect their skin, to take extra care not to over-wash your mastiff; about once a month should work nicely.

Although they are very large, mastiffs are a gentle breed and can be very wonderful pets if taken care of properly. They have a wonderful attitude towards children, but naturally their size may not make great pets if your child is very young and can easily get knocked over by a grown mastiff. There are many different types of mastiffs, some of the most popular being bull mastiffs, English mastiffs, and American mastiffs. If you decide to introduce a mastiff into your home, you won't be sorry! - 20511

The Dog Training Tips Professional Trainers Use

The Dog Training Tips Professional Trainers Use

by Geraldine Dimarco

Contrary to popular opinion, anyone can train their dogs. Whoever told you it can't be done have used incorrect methods or have failed because they gave up too soon. Nothing tests your patience like dog training; but staying on course until you see the fruits of your labor is incredibly rewarding. Not only will your home be clean and shiny, you will have a better social life and a happier relationship with your pet.

To understand more the groundwork of basic dog training tips, let us see the world through the eyes of our pet. Humans are sensible and cognitive beings equipped to correctly assess situations through logic, assumptions and basic reasoning. Our dogs are not as fortunate. They are lovely pets yes, but their comprehension is only derived from simple reactions and a consistent pattern of training they get from us. 'Come!' is completely different from 'Let's go!' and 'Come here!' from a dog's perspective. He might go to you after several tries but it's probably just luck and not real understanding you can work on.

Thus, you will have to be consistent in the exact words and phrases you use in training your dogs the basic commands. This will apply to everything relating to him.

It is foundational and of utmost importance that your dog acknowledges you as the immovable head of the pack. It does not imply that you need to be excessively mean and harsh to the dog to affirm your authority; you need only to be firm and strong. Once he recognizes you as the leader, the dog will seek to obey and follow you as a good subordinate does.

Rubbing your dog's belly is a simple tactic you can employ to enforce your leadership. This teaches him to submit to you and by licking your hand he acknowledges you as his superior. Never yield to your pet's crying or growling just to keep them quiet. You need to set good habits and see to it this is followed at all times.

Another trick experts use in training animals is to let the dog teach himself. For example, your dog is gnawing on things not meant for dog's teeth. Pet owners will reprimand the dog right away and take the thing away. This isn't wrong but a better method is to replace incorrect behavior with the right one by planting unpleasant sensations and memories from the wrong behavior.

When he starts chewing your shoe, give him a sharp blast of cold water from your squirt gun. If he resumes his shoe chewing, squirt him again. Place a favorite toy in front of him and encourage him to pick it up. When he does, shower him with praise. He will associate unpleasant feelings with the wrong behavior and good ones with the right behavior.

Dog socialization in an important but often overlooked area of dog training. Developing social skills should start within three months of the puppy's life. However, it would be good to have even older dogs socialize with people and other dogs regularly. Put socialization high up in the training priority list by introducing him to different kinds of people and animals (make sure they're healthy) throughout his life.

To bring someone or something up in discipline and tender care is a sign of love and maturity. These dog training tips will help your dogs be happy and confident in their life. Sure it has its challenges; but the end result is always worth it. - 20511
