Bouvier des Flandres: The Guard Dog

The monks from the Ter Duinen monastery were the first known to have the breed of the modern Bouvier des Flandres. Parents of the modern offspring was said to be from the Irish wolfhounds breed and the local farm dogs. These new Bouviers breed are said to be hardworking and are usually considered the best assistants for any farm jobs.

These kinds of breed are considered as the smart type since they can be easily trained. Once trained with commands, they can easily remember it for the rest of their lives. They tend to have a greater perception as compared to other animals when it comes to understanding simple commands.

As opposed to the intimidating look that the Bouviers create, these dogs are gentle and calm. They are also perceived as smart because they can be easily trained and quite fast with learning. Once they become familiar with a certain command, they will remember it for as long as they live.

It is said that the monks from Ter Duinem monastery made the first move to have the modern Bouvier des Flandres. They used the Irish wolfhounds and the local farm dogs to produce the cross bred offspring. These modern Bouviers are said to be effective farm companions as they make a hardworking assistant.

When it comes to the maturity of these dogs, Bouviers are said to have the slow paced mental and physical development. It takes around 2 to 3 years before they are considered fully mature. However, with their very adaptable nature, they can be the considered as an ideal family pet.

At an early age, Bouviers must be properly socialized in order to avoid suspiciousness, shyness and being reserved with strangers. They must be well exposed to other pets such as cats and other dogs. Their behavior in general depends on how they are brought up.

In order to maintain the healthy lifestyle of your Bouvier dog, they must be well taken cared of. Always expose them to the outside world in order for them to associate with other pets. The more socialized they become, the lesser worries you will get.

In order to bring out the full potential of Bouviers, they must be well taken cared of. Keep them properly socialized with other pets and people. Once they are exposed to the outside world and are allowed to associate at an early age, they can grow up without getting reserved to the people. - 20511
