Some climates necessitate appropriate insulation in accessories for the doghouse. In extremely cold weather or in high temperatures, not insulating a doghouse could jeopardize the health and safety of the dog.
The typical extreme weather for summer and winter months for that area determines the importance of insulating your dog's house. In regions of the world where there are extremely cold temperatures in winter or extremely high temperatures in summer, and insulated doghouse may not be enough protection for the dog.
Some premade doghouses are insulated. A doghouse kit or a customized, homemade doghouse can be insulated.
Different forms of insulation are used in doghouses. Polystyrene foam or are Styrofoam sheets may be used between the interior and exterior surfaces of the doghouse walls, and roof, and floor. Sometimes, the interior of the doghouse is lined with insulated panels.
The insulation helps the doghouse from becoming too hot or too cold. The insulation blocks some of the heat in summer. The insulation holds in the dog's body temperature which helps keep the inside of the doghouse warmer during the winter.
If the dog owner is buying insulated doghouse, the dog owner may want to question whether the doghouse has an insulated roof and floor, or if just the walls are insulated. The dog owner may want to ask what insulating material the doghouse contains and whether it requires any maintenance.
It is best for a dog that is going to be kept outdoors to begin to adjust to being outdoors from the time it is puppy. Dogs that have not been outdoors may have difficulty adjusting to the weather and other factors like boredom and a lack of social interaction.
Some dog breeds do well outdoors in temperatures that are similar to the areas where the dog breed originated. For example, a dog with a thick coat may tolerate colder temperatures then a dog with a short coat. However, the dog with thick coat may not be able to adjust the summer heat.
An insulated doghouse used in the winter needs to be the appropriate size for the dog. The insulated doghouse is heated by the dog's body temperature, therefore if the doghouse is too large, the space cannot be heated sufficiently by the dog's body temperature.
There are a few options for doghouses that are to be used during times of extreme temperatures. Heating pads and heating and cooling units are becoming common doghouse accessories.
Besides extreme temperatures, other effects of being outdoors for long periods of time can be detrimental to the dog. A dog that has kept outdoors can become aggressive due to the lack of socialization. - 20511
