Aggressive dogs pose a frightening and at times dangerous dilemma. Luckily, if you dog undergoes aggressive dog training, many of the problems can quickly go away.
Millions of people have experienced instances of dog bites and in most of these reports those people are children.
Aggression in dogs can be brought about in a number of ways. Sometimes the environment that they live in plays a big part, while other times they inherit aggressive behavior. Some breeds are more likely to be aggressive than others, Akita's and Bulldogs are fine examples of this. As dogs traditionally live in packs, they are also built to fight for the top position and sometimes do this using aggression.
It's very important that you understand the reasons for aggressive behavior and that you then train your dog so that it's less inclined to be aggressive. By confirming your spot as leader of the pack you will gain respect and are much more likely to be obeyed. By giving in to your dog you are effectively leaving yourself wide open to more aggressive behavior.
The cause of your dog's aggression may be fear, or protecting their territory. Dogs are often aggressive amongst themselves, especially when two dogs of the same sex meet. Whatever the cause or reason for your dogs aggression, you will need to start re-training your dog as soon as possible.
As soon as your puppy is 3 months of age you should get it used to socializing with other dogs. Some trainers suggest that your puppy needs to be 1 year old, however 3 months has always been fine in my experience. If you have an adult dog, it will most likely require more just socialization to fix the problem.
Regardless of how stubborn your dog may seem, with consistency and persistence you can train it to be less aggressive. Make sure you are seen as the Alpha Dog and have the respect of your dog - this will make the training that much easier. Positive reinforcement and praise goes a long way, use it when your dog behaves the way you want him to and he will learn over time how he should be behaving.
Finally, aggressive dogs do pose a real danger and training should be done with precaution. If you ever feel overly threatened, the best thing to do is to get your dog to a vet as soon as possible. There may be some illness that is resulting in the aggression or you may need a professional trainer to assist you. - 20511
