The Wrinkly Faced Yet Good Hearted English Bulldog

The Wrinkly Faced Yet Good Hearted English Bulldog

by Jack Lawrence

The ugliest for some and the most beautiful for others; opinion may vary but the fact still remains, the English Bulldog is one of the most well-received and well-loved pets around the world. This creature, despite of its short size, looks massive with its thick-set and low to the ground body. Despite its violent and bloody ancestry line, it is friendly, calm and gentle.

This breed looks peculiar due its pug face, short height, round and tucked in body. Its coat is usually short and smooth and appears in colors of red brindle, solid white, solid red, fawn or fallow and piebald. When it walks, it hints of a sidewise and shuffling motion due to its lose joints.

The English Bulldog is the descendant of the vicious and deadly bulldog of the 15th century England. These old bulldogs were cross-bred of the war dog breed Mastiff and during these times, the old bulldog is used as bull attackers on bull fighting events, a popular barbaric past time at the time. When the game was banned in England, some of the breeds were brought to America and Germany to help develop the Boxer.

As bull baiting became illegal in England, these fighting dogs were transported to America and Germany and they helped with the inception of the Boxer breed. Meanwhile, the dogs that were left in England were bred with the pug dog and the result became the modern day English Bulldog. The cross-breed of the bulldog and pug dog was not violent at all and in fact, was only limited to dog shows if it ever was to join competitions.

This breed is docile but can be quite determined at times and extremely loyal to its human family. It is equable with other animals and is affectionate and excellent with kids, however, it is not an entirely energetic kind of dog. Truth is, the English Bulldog loves to laze around and just stay indoors.

As a puppy, the English Bulldog is sprightly but as it grows in to an adult, it tames and calms down a lot. It strives best indoors and would rather not exercise unlike other breeds that need constant activities. This dog also overheats easily and thus shouldn't be left out in an improperly ventilated space.

The English Bulldog loves to sleep and in fact would drool and snore while he's at it. Its body is easy to maintain too for it only needs brushing with a rough cloth once in a while. Be forewarned, however, to not to allow this dog to eat so much food for it will entirely resist exercise.

It is necessary as well to powder its fold and wrinkles during hot weathers so as to freshen him up a bit. Despite its supposedly scary looking wrinkly face, the English Bulldog has only gentle and laid back qualities to boast. And even if it came from an unpleasant breed, it managed to become gentle and affectionate without a hint of aggressiveness today. - 20511
