Basic Guide to Caring for Your Small Dog

Basic Guide to Caring for Your Small Dog

by Elias Maseko

Caring for the small dog is pretty similar to caring for a larger pet. Having said that, there are certain points they need to be made aware of when looking after a small dog. Just think about some of the everyday events that may need to be looked at when considering certain needs.

Feeding time:

The dog needs to be fed daily but the kibble which you get usually at the grocery could be too big and the dog may not feel very comfortable using it. You'll need to be sure to buy a kibble designed to fit his smaller mouth (these are easy to find among the premium dog food brands). Canned soft foods are also perfectly suitable for tiny canines.

Methods of containing them:

A few staple needs for any dog include exercise, some confidential outdoor venue for potty and a protected area for security. Smaller dogs are much more nimble that larger dogs and what might be a secure environment for one is not necessarily for the other. It is also important to remember that fences can not provide top protection where you might find hawks eyeing your tiny pet as they are known to come down fast and sweep away minute dogs and puppies. Hence, get your pet a kennel which is covered on the top for the right protection.

Training your dog:

While the training methodologies may be the same for large as well as tiny and are not any harder, but canine experts confirm that more often than not, the smaller counterparts are usually over-mothered. However tiny your dog may be, the small dog is still a follower of pack behavior where the important thing to remember is that you do not lead the pack, the dog does. It is important to remember that the pet must under any circumstances be house trained even if the confusion looks small and it really does not matter. According to dog experts, let the dog work for you so that he understands and identifies your demands and rules. for a small reward or treat.

Dog grooming:

Small dogs have some particular requirements when it comes to grooming you need to bear in mind. One such need is frequent manicuring since these tiny animals spend less time on rough surfaces than larger dogs, which usually wears the nails naturally. Brushing his teeth twice a week is mandatory, especially if he is on soft canned foods. The above makes it clear that it does not matter whether you are taking care of a small dog or a large dog the methods are pretty much the same. While each requirement may seem small and insignificant, but when you do it with earnestness, it can make a huge difference in the way you keep a dog. - 20511
