It is a very simple process to pick a collar for your dog. There are lots of ways to decide, but we will only be discussing four of them in this article.
One way to choose would be to know the measurements of your dogs neck. If you don't know you can simply use a tape measure to find out. Once you have this information you can look at the package that the collar comes in to see if it mentions the size of the collar. As a rule of thumb you always want to be able to fit two fingers between the collar and your dog's neck.
The next thing I would suggest is that you weight your pet. Many times you can tell which size collar you need by the weight listed on the package of the collar. This is another way to possibly tell how thick of a collar you will need.
Third I would say pay attention to what the collar is made of. Leather collars can break if too much pressure is applied to them. This is something you always want to think about if your dog is not trained and like to pull you around. Another thing to consider about leather is that it often cracks when it gets washed or wet.
The final thing I would suggest is you figuring out if the reason you are buying the collar in the first place. You may only need the collar to walk your dog, or you may need it for training purposes. If you need the collar to train your dog you will want to put more effort into choosing the collar than what I listed here in this writing. Choosing a collar for generic reasons such as identification and walking your dog is much easier.
For the most part choosing a dog collar is very simple, just try to find the right fit and color for your dog and you should be ok. As soon as you locate one in your price range you should go for it. Just remember training collars take a little bit more consideration. - 20511
