Labradoodle, a particularly unique and fascinating name for a dog breed, is one of the newest breed to be ever conceived in the 21st century. Having only developed in 1989, this breed has already reached world wide recognition and its uses continue to expand beyond scientific, social and family companionship. The Labradoodle breed is also being constantly experimented on to further develop and create perfection in the Labrador and Poodle union.
Wally Conron was the first person to breed the Labradoodle and he did so with an aim of developing a dog that is intelligent to carry out and obey instructions and hypoallergenic enough to be safe with every kind of person. This idea was brought on by a woman in Hawaii who requested to be given such quality of a dog for she is blind and her husband is allergic to dog hair and dander. After a few samples of hair and saliva were sent to Hawaii for testing, none of it returned with successful results.
After several tests of poodle hair and saliva samples in Hawaii, the results flunked to failure. This is when Conron appealed to breed a Labrador Retriever and Standard Poodle to achieve their desired results. The experiment resulted in the first three puppies of Labradoodle and after hair and dander testing, the result produced positive.
Being a new breed, the Labradoodle is not quite set in terms of characteristics although every offspring's temperament is traceable from that of either the Labrador Retriever or the Standard Poodle. To achieve perfection and in order to establish stability in the real Labradoodle breed, experiments are being continued to this day and the results are getting closer to the goal. Because of this ongoing quest, several sub generations of the Labradoodle had been produced including the Double Doodle, Tri Doodles, and now the Australian Multi-Generational Labradoodles.
The Labradoodle breed is generally friendly, energetic and affectionate to families and children. The majority of them also have an obvious inclination to water and some are superb swimmers and this skill is traceable to their parents' excellent talent in the water. Distinct and different each Labradoodle may be but all of their characters are definitely the combined characteristics of the Labrador Retriever and the Standard Poodle.
The Labrador Retriever and the Standard Poodle are well-known for their above average intelligence and trainability and these are two of the exact traits that make the Labradoodle favorable to a lot of people. It is impressive to learn as well that the Labradoodle is quite adept in learning, understanding and obeying verbal and sign language commands. Because of this, the breed is widely used as a companion and guide of the disabled and handicapped people in the world.
The appearance of the Labradoodle vary in sizes as there are toy Labradoodles, miniature Labradoodles and standard Labradoodles; and these are brought about by the different sizes of the poodles used in cross-breeding. The coat varies in texture and type too as there is wiry or soft, straight, wavy or curly and coarse. The coats also appear in a selection of colors such as chocolate, cafe, parchment, cream, gold, apricot, red, black, silver, and chalk.
Despite the newness of this breed, popularity of it around the world is constantly rising. Because of this newness, their standard is not quite established and so two research and breeding centers were built for the purpose of creating stability for this breed. These centers are the Rutland Manor Breeding and Research Center in Darnum, Victoria and the Tegan Park Breeding and Research Center in Seaspray, Victoria. - 20511
