When we hear the word and see Chihuahua, there is an automatic image of celebrities holding one tiny little dog in their arms and some million dollars dog lead- roled movie; and these are just some of the trend that this classy and fastidious little breed has influenced the world. Today, this breed is everywhere and is carried by everyone; and whoever has this dog, is a sure fashionista and in person. From Hollywood to fashion magazines, and from mansions to city apartments, this dog has definitely conquered the "it" world.

Needless it may be to introduce a Chihuahua but this dog is an ever present tiny creature that possesses among its many titles the term "purse dog"; clearly, this term must be directed toward its portable size and fashion symbolism. A Chihuahua, innately, has a big, round, and sparkly eyes, a small fragile body, and two classifications of coats, the long coat and the smooth coat. Outwardly, this dog is never without an expensive or designer's bling bling and clothing; and these favors are just additional evidence to the pampering and wealth that this breed enjoys.

The long coated Chihuahua is the one which possesses a longer, curly or flat, and soft hair while the smooth coated Chihuahua falls on the side of smooth, shiny, soft, and snuggly fitting pelt. These coats come in varying colors like black and brown and the style and distribution of these colors come as solid, marked, and splashed. Grooming a Chihuahua is heavenly as well for, with its small body and limited fur, it only requires minimal cleaning, occasional maintenance, and for the long coated Chihuahua, once in a while coat brushing.

The name Chihuahua came from Chihuahua, Mexico- a region of Mexico where this breed was said to have been first sighted. Tracing back its origin, it is unclear really but conclusions have it as, the breed coming from the Fennec Fox, a small dog that has big eyes and big ears as well, just like the present day Chihuahuas, only bigger in body size. However, what's clear is the fact that even during the reign of the Aztecs, the Chihuahuas have been the favored pets of the royalties and of the upper class people of this kingdom and had been used in religious rituals.

There are many diminutive breeds in the world as we know of today but the Chihuahua owns the recognition as the smallest breed there is. In the US, it is cited as the oldest breed in the country. More over, this breed does not only own the oldest and smallest titles, it is also endowed to have the longest life span for all sizes of dogs; the Chihuahua, we can therefore say, definitely lives up to the saying "small but terrible".

Each Chihuahua is different from each other and truth is, each one has a unique personality and this disables generalization for the breed. Although small in size, this dog is deeply and devotedly protective and loyal to its master. It can be a great watch dog for it is fearless in suspecting and warding off possible intruders.

Albeit the diminutive 6 to 9 inches height of the Chihuahua, it is still energetic, regally mannered, fearless, and intriguingly human-like in reactions and facial expressions. This creature has a notable intelligence but in training them, it will take much effort compared to other breeds. They are not hopeless, however, for with patience, affection, and steadfastness on your part and a positive reinforcement, they can learn and abide to the trainings and rules you prepare for them.

In terms of exercise, it is but a consolation if you have a limited-spaced dwelling or neighborhood, for this dog's activities include only an indoor play with toys and some mild play rituals. But additionally, a dose of regular short walks with its master will be plain helpful as well in not only exercising the dog and preventing it from acquiring negative behaviors, but in socializing and exposing it to a diverse form of population, be it humans or different sized animals.
