We consider pets to be members of the family and we often treat them like children. Having pets in your life keeps your stress level lower and generally contributes positively to your mental health. Our pets give us their unconditional love and we love them back; and we should show this love by keeping our pets safe and secure. Part of caring for your pet?s safety is having a pet gate for your home.
Some will tell you that they don?t need a pet gate since they have taken great pains to make their home a safe environment for their pet. Don?t let yourself be one of them! Think of your pet as a very young child. No matter how safe you may think your home is, there are many hazards you may not even have thought of.
We tend to keep a lot of things in our cabinets which can be dangerous for our pets; cleaning products, small, sometimes sharp objects and even medication. Pets may be tempted to look inside cabinets and can even get stuck inside where they can be exposed to toxic chemicals!
An unattended pet can even accidentally harm itself with something as ordinary as your toilet! Pets will drink from the bowl if they?re thirsty and if yours is an automatically self-cleaning model, this can be a poisoning hazard for your pet.
There are a variety of other hazards around the home; knives, gas stoves and a many other things which might not occur to you as obvious dangers.
A pet gate can keep your beloved pet out of trouble and more importantly, out of harm?s way when you need to leave them unattended. It?s a lot easier than going through the process of making sure that every inch of your home is safe for your pets.
Quality matters when choosing a pet gate for your home. It needs to be solidly constructed and feature sturdy latches which cannot be opened by your pet. When looking at a pet gate, look for the following:
* Durable materials like solid steel or aluminum or heavy duty plastic which are well put together.
* Your pet gate has to be very strong and not have gaps which your pet can stick their head through and become stuck.
* The bars may be either horizontal or vertical, but must not have gaps between the slats larger than 2.5 inches
* A complex latch mechanism which you can open but your pet will be unable to.
* There should not be any kind of plastic parts which can be broken easily by repeated banging.
Your pet gate needs to be strong enough to protect your pet from danger. There are a lot of different models available online which can keep your pet safe and sound even when you?re out of the room. - 20511
