Getting a new puppy is always a fun time for a pet owner. Puppies are so cute and adorable that everyone loves them. They quickly become part of the family and everyone enjoys the playing, the curiosity and the sweet cuddliness but nobody enjoys it when they go potty in the house. Puppy potty training is probably the most difficult and likely the only real problem that goes with having a new puppy but if you are going to be a contented dog owner you will need to know that your puppy house training is efficiently done.

House training a puppy can be frustrating and difficult sometimes. But we all need to remember that a puppy is still just a baby. At 12 weeks of age a puppy may need to go outside as often as every 15-20 minutes and even more if he is actively playing. A resting puppy will not have to go out quite as often so during the nighttime you can have more time especially if he is sound asleep. Do not wake a sleeping puppy just make sure to take him out to potty as soon as he wakes up.

Consistency is the most crucial part of puppy house training. Be consistent in taking him out on his leash to the same spot every time. Be consistent about issuing the same commands such as "potty now" every time. And be consistent with your lavish praise and special treats when he does finally go.

If you make the entire experience a positive one|potty training a positive experience for your puppy your puppy house training will be completed sooner. That means that you will need to be patient and loving even when there is an accident. Just take him outside and praise him when he does it right and don't give it any attention when he does it wrong. Your puppy wants to please you so it is important that you do not do anything that will confuse him.

Using a crate will assist you in your puppy house training when you need to be away from your puppy. Dogs naturally try to keep their own space clean so a crate will help your puppy to learn how to control himself. Dogs are also natural den animals so they like having a small space of their own.
