Dog Training - Keys To Bringing Up An Obedient Dog

Dog Training - Keys To Bringing Up An Obedient Dog

by Andyl Hannerl

To transform a puppy into an obedient dog that your whole family will appreciate is by using proper dog training techniques. Dogs, like kids, need to know and understand the rules of the house and will need to respect their owners.

A lot of pet owners fall in love with a scruffy, cute face puppy at the pet store or the breeders only to be disappointed when this little puppy bites on the house furniture and makes the carpet their rest room. While a lot of puppies have different styles of getting in trouble, what a responsible owner must do is to use up a lot of his time and tolerance to raise that little pup in to an obedient dog who will give joy to all. It is in this article that you will be provided with some basic dog training techniques to help you and your pup develop a joyful relationship.

Rules

First thing you need to do is create the household rules and begin right away as this will result to a more successful training. So if you do not want your seventy pound Golden retriever jumping up on your bed at night, neither should your little puppy. Not even once.

As it is never too late to get a puppy, it is also never too early to train your puppy to stay away from your furniture or to steer clear from jumping on your guests. You have to make sure that your entire family understands that when the puppy gets home, they should be prepared to enforce the rules that you created for your dog to follow.

Keeping Consistency

When rules are set, it will be up to you, the owner of the dog, on how you can keep consistency and how you can enforce them as well. Make sure that when your puppy breaks a rule of the household reprimand him with a sharp NO and show him the proper behavior.

This applies to all aspects of dog training, such as house breaking and chewing on his toys instead of your shoes. Just like kids, dogs will learn the rules quickest when they are enforced without fail. The problem is that consistency takes time and plenty of patience on the part of the dog owner. However, good, consistent dog training at the beginning will save time, effort " and your shoes " in the long run.

Give Positive Rewards

When your dog obeys the rules properly, it is essential that you reward him for that positive behavior. Effective dog training means using positive reinforcement rather than punishment to see better results. In the beginning, you can opt for edible treats as a reward. In the process, as your pup gets the hang of the dog training procedure, you can start using praises and positive attention when a command is obeyed by your dog. If positive reinforcement is consistently given, your pup will soon understand that whatever youre doing is for his won good.

Dog training is not particularly difficult, but it does take time, patience and consistency to produce the desired results. However, you will find that the time you put in will be well worth the effort when you end up with a dog that is enjoyable for your family and guests. - 20511
