Having a puppy is honestly a joy. There are so many things that a puppy does that is so cute and they are by far the best pets in the world to have. One thing that is not fun at all is puppy training. Training your new puppy is extremely difficult if you do not know exactly what you are doing. This is especially true when the puppy is constantly nipping at you. Luckily, there are a ton of ways to stop puppy biting and we are going to look into some of those ways in this article.
One of the very first items that you need to think about is the fact that you are your puppy's pack leader. You are definitely the Alpha dog in this situation and you need to make sure that you state your authority right up front, otherwise your puppy will walk all over you.
One thing that a lot of people do not realize when they are trying to train their puppy not to bite them is that they should absolutely under no circumstances pull their hand away or jerk it away. That will entice the puppy to lunge at your hand and think it is a game and that your hand is a playtoy.
What you want to do whenever your puppy tries to bite you, you want to make sure that you first, simply offer the puppy your fist. That way, they can nibble with their teeth on your hand and when the bite becomes too hard, you want to keep your hand totally still but react with a firm and stern tone in your voice. Give one or two sharp 'Ouch!' sounds and you will notice that the puppy will react to that.
If you have never owned a dog, you probably do not realize that animals, especially dogs, react not to any action that you do, but they react more to the tone of your voice. If you are giving a stern tone, you will definitely become the boss of the pack and your dog will respect your rules.
Another great idea is to just ignore your dog. Now, this sounds mean, but it actually works extremely well. Puppies are attention-getters and they definitely want to make sure that they have all sorts of attention. If you are completely ignoring them, it will drive them insane!
It is pretty obvious that there are tons of things that you really need to ponder over whenever you are trying to stop your puppy from biting you. Just remember that while difficult, it is not impossible and you really just need to make sure that you practice some of these techniques with your dog.
The old saying "practice makes perfect" is something that holds true whenever you are trying to get your puppy to stop biting. Just remember these points as well as the tone of your voice and you should have absolutely no problems at all! - 20511
